Leg Ulcers

I am interested in hearing the experiences of other homeopaths who have successfully treated leg ulcers (I am a newly qualified homeopath about to start practice). My 67 year old father-in-law would like to try homeopathy for his leg ulcer as he is getting no where with conventional medicine. Would it help to give the remedy internally as well as applying to the ulcer? After giving him Merc 6c (water dose), the ulcer started to discharge and suppurate and he slept better and had less pain. Although the medicos told him his ulcer was getting worse because it was suppurating.
Would love to hear some success stories and how to manage a leg ulcer case.

Definitely treatable and like every condition you will have your
successes and failures. You often have a lot of info to work with in
terms of modalities and sensations etc. And of course take a thorough
case and analyse it the way you would any case, looking at the
totality of symptoms. I mostly use low potencies for this condition
but have seen others have success with high.

Have you looked into nutritional support for leg ulcers (and/or to complement homeopathic treatment in general)? At the recent NCH Conference in Denver, CO (USA) there was a very interesting talk by a pediatrician/homeopath from the Washington, DC area, Dr. Iona Razi. She has recently been having her patients use “live foods” according to books by Dr. Fuhrman. She said she learned about him (a US author) from friends in Greece!
I googled “live foods” and came upon a link to information about his “live foods” at https://www.drfuhrman.com/library/article17.aspx. Dr. Razi presented some very interesting cases where she says she got much better results with improved nutrition plus homeopathy than she used to get with homeopathy alone. I think that leg ulcers are particularly related to poor nutrition, aren’t they? Teresa (Northern VA, USA)

Hi Irene
Along with the indicated rx, it often helps to apply Manuka or
organic honey into the dip of the ulcer, covering this with Aloe Vera
Gel and then wrapping with a bandage soaked in Calendula tincture. I
also have a note in my therapeutics book that cruched Merc (Sol) can
also be topically applied, so I'd imagine this should help too as it
has a;ready promoted the healing process.
Hope this helps
Sue

I'd not chipped in on the ulcer discussion till now, but I have seen
diabetic ulcers clear up fast with Calend 200c powdered and drizzled
into the ulcer - plus big aqueous Calen 200C
I did not mention it before as I see this as first aid - where it is
better to take the whole case.

Namaste,
IRene

It is amazing what comes up when explore the modalities. I have had some did not help. One delightful old lady cured by Flouric Ac 6c. Nutrition must important . Bannerjee has a protocol, which perhaps Robyn could help with. Has any one any thoughts about using such a toxin as Merc Sol in a low potency. Hepar Sulph I think is said to produce pus in lower potencies and resolve it in higher. Would crushed Merc Sol not be highly toxic. Just a thought, Jean.

Hi Inez, I have treated a couple of leg ulcers successfully -
one in a paraplegic - with a single dose of Lachesis (and 2 months) and some attention to pathophysiological accessory measures to encourage drainage of Lymphatic system and increasing blood supply into area
and one case of a Daintree Ulcer rx Silica low potency (plus other intercurrents) over a period of 18months.
In both cases the ulcer suppurated more in the intial phase of treatment - but SOWB in both cases raised early on in treatment.
I always took it that the Homeopathy plus the accessory measures allowed better lymphatic drainage, increased blood supply and better access to area by immune system products that 'cleared' and 'drained' the area externally rather than absorb all the 'toxic' products of the ulcer. After a while the sloughing lessened, the colour of it cleared and the surrounding inflammation started to subside and granulation began.
I also used Dilute Calendula tincture in saline as a wash for the outside of the ulcer. If the ulcer is dressed, once the granulation begins I used a ring of 'rolled dressing padding' around the ulcer and a bandage over the top of the ring, so no dressing actually touched the ulcer so the granulation is not disturbed and so that discharge can leave easily and be caught by the pad around the wound.
All I can say is go for it. Sounds like you've made a good start. If symptoms change as healing takes place just retake the case and adjust the similmum accordingly.
I would also investigate (harder in a family member) what it is that is 'eating away at him' - both my cases had an issue and work on that also I am sure was part of the cure. Had I known about EFT then I would certainly have used it.
Hope this helps Pauline (PS I am in Maleny just north of Brisbane so if you want any more detail email me paulineashford@optusnet.com.au )
