Tanya,
Very glad to see your post - I posted the information for this yesterday morning - it only came to light on Friday - the bill is being rushed through - no one on this list commented at all, they seemed to be locked into an exchange about the NBHE.
THIS IS A CRUCIAL DEBATE FOR THE ENTIRE FUTURE OF HEALTH CARE - THERE WILL BE NO OVERSIGHT WHATSOEVER SINCE THE FDA WILL LITERALLY BE IN BUSINESS WITH THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES WITH AN OPEN ENDED POLICY TO DEAL WITH ANYTHING THEY PERCEIVE AS COMPETITION.
EVERYONE - it is CRUCIAL to contact Senators before tomorrow to tell them to vote NO to this bill. The FDA will basically become a drug company developing new drugs with industry and clause 12) gives them an open ended blank sheet to dictate on other issues, eg CAMs. The conflict of interest this will produce is beyond belief. PLEASE take a few minutes to take action via the link that Tanya gives below - or see my previous post on bill S1082.
The timing of this bill is very interesting.
1. Feb 27 FDA issues Guidelines - which does nothing but state what we already know and gives Apr 30th as the 90 day end date for comment.
2. Major push in health freedom movement to oppose it - largely led by Natural Health Solutions asking people to send comments to FDA - a largely ineffective action if copies are not also sent to Congress.
3. AAHF ask FDA for extension since the 90 day period would actually end on May 29th . FDA say 'yes to extension and that they 'made a mistake' giving Apr 30th as end date.
4. Apr 28th S1082 giving sweeping new powers to the FDA and Big Pharma appears on the Senate list for debate on Apr 30th at 4.15pm.
5. It's the weekend - most people are already tired of the bombardment recently about the FDA Guidelines and taking action for that that response so far has been negligible. etc.
6. Interesting timing imho.
This is a REAL BILL unlike the FDA Guidelines which was just a statement of what we already knew.
Thanks,
Carol
