Hi Everyone,
I have checked the gov site myself and this bill is being rushed through - has not been discussed in committee and is scheduled for Senate debate at 4.15pm on Monday April 30th.
It is almost incomprehensible in it's conflict of interest between the FDA and Big Pharma - read pages 106 onwards to see what I mean - it sets up an FDA/Big Pharma new drug development foundation - massively increases the fees paid to the FDA to fast track new drugs and gives a open ended option for the FDA to take any action it considers necessary in any other arena - ( for which potentially read CAM etc.) It does the absolute reverse of it's stated mission to protect the public.
"This new FDA business enterprise is called the Reagan-Udall Foundation for the Food and Drug Administration (see pages 105-125 of S.1082). In previous versions of the Kennedy bill it was going to be an independent drug company within the FDA (the Reagan-Udall Institute for Applied Biomedical Research). In the current bill it is a "non profit" collaboration of the FDA, private industry, government funding, and private funding."
