Naturopathy schools?

Hi,

I was a nursing major several years ago and wasnt able to finish for
health reasons.

I am now compelled on many levels, physically, spiritually and
emotionally, to go into alternative medicine and research. I really
want to do energetic type work..but i want a strong training
background. I am now looking into Naturopathy programs and am in the
state of califoria. I am only finding 4 schools in this country and
one in canada. I havent even been able to find a truly holistic
oriented nursing program in california, which is one of the pioneer
states in alternative medicine.

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on holistic oriented
programs for alternative medicine in ca?

Hi,

You won't find a holistically oriented nursing school anywhere in the States despite recent laws regarding alternative health care. Why don't you finish the nursing program since you have some of it? Nurses are uniquely suited to homeopathy because of our training. You won't have to go a full 4 years for an ND and the NLN, I believe has made it so transferring from one nursing program to another doesn't mean repeating everything you have already done.
The Homeopathic Nurses Association has may nurses who practice without an advanced degree and are doing fine. I should know I was one and will be again when I find an office!

You should consider seriously Bastyr University near Seattle. I know it's
not in California, but it's not that hard to get to from California, and its
program is outstanding. The other good naturopathic college that isn't
terribly far away from California is Southwest College of Naturopathic
Medicine in Arizona.

Thanks Rosemary. I have looked into both programs. I battle if i want to finish nursing school , and branch into energetic medicine, alternative...
or if i should pursue the nd program. i flux back and fourtha nd i guess for now, the time is just not right. i still view many nd programs as allopathic. they just prescribe herbs instead of drugs..my v enue is more energetic work, so while i would have the creditials behind me (the degree of a nurse or ND) i still have much to learn in the energetic world..
i try and get as much feedback as possible..

Hi,

there may be a chance to get an officially recognized degree in
acupuncture, by courses that are based on the energy principle. It
used to be that way in New Mexico. I went to an acupuncture college
there, and while I did not take the State exam, some other graduates
of the college did and had done so.

I do not know whether this is still this way there, I do not know
whether this is possible in other States and/or whether this degree is
recognized in other States.

AFAIK this is pretty unique world-wide. As a rule in order to get an
officially recognized degree you have to know a lot of regular
medicine, and schools mostly concentrate on this.
