[H] Letting horses choose which (homeopathic) remedies they need
Posted: Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:30 pm
A little more about horse sense. My friend Joyce (who said I could use her
name) offers her horse, Presto, "sea kelp, salt & minerals, fruits and
veggies free-choice," as well as homeopathic remedies when appropriate.
She says his choices “give me insight into Presto's needs/state of health.
We've been together going on 13 years. Homeopathic remedies are the ones
Presto most commonly ‘chooses’ or discriminates among. While he does use
olfaction, other horses use it a lot more. He more commonly grabs the
bottle or licks his lips if he wants something.
There isn't an herb (I offer mixes) he has refused -- he apparently needs
lots of stuff all the time with our poor pastures. And he is allowed to
browse weeds, woods, and dirt to get what he wants. In the spring he eats
American hornbeam a lot.
By the way, I've been learning about essential oils. Presto and other
horses are quite responsive to them. It is another amazing facet of their
skills."
I find it downright amazing that Presto can choose his homeopathic remedies!
I'd like to be better at that myself. Teresa (Northern VA, USA)
