On-line prescriptions

Prescribing online:
I don't have a problem with long-distance work by phone or e-mail. My issue
is with the lack of a clear practitioner/patient relationship. I feel it is
crucial for one person to be responsible for the case in an ongoing way. I
see a difference between practitioners asking for help from the list for
their cases, and individuals asking for prescriptions from the list in
general for themselves or loved ones. My experience has been that I've
received a much higher level of homeopathic care when I've turned to a
practitioner I resonate with, rather than trying to be the practitioner for
myself and my family, even though I consider myself a highly competent
homeopath--for other people.
A psychiatrist I know told me he could lose his license if he treated family
members. While I feel this is excessively strict, I do see the reason
behind it, that our judgment is compromised with intimate relationship.
I feel we'd better serve those in need of homeopathic care if we were to
refer them to a practitioner we trust, or offer to treat them ourselves
privately if we are qualified to do so.
Blessings and prayers for all, especially to Alva and her husband Joey,

Prayer has been proven to be effective. (I have cited studies on this
list.) We can certainly offer our heartfelt prayers for anyone needing
help.

Dear Charlotte
I too believe in the power of the prayer and believe myself only to be a
tool for healing. I am not the healer, The Healer is the Almighty.
In terms of prescribing on line, I think some of the warnings we have
received from colleagues are based on perhaps bitter experience of
litigation which is so demanding and wasting of time and energy.
We have a duty of care to our patients and ourselves. We must not
jeopardise our own or others' livelihood.
I think that if as a group we ever decide to prescribe for someone, then
there should be one person prepared to take the responsibility and front for
the group. They would then have the group's knowledge and experience as a
support in the background.
It must also be worthwhile to say to the distant patient that ideally they
should see a professional in their locality.
In the case of Dr Alva Irish, I did speak with her on the phone which is a
useful tool.
Also we can use Yahoo msnger to talk to each other.
Lastly, someone said that a Homoeopath who treats himself has a FOOL for a
patient. I believe this to be very true in chronic terms because we are
very prejudiced towards ourselves. Acutes, if we are sharp and not too far
gone, are perhaps easier and a different matter but not always. I remember
in the case of my own flu in Dec 1999 I was well out of it!!
A colleague rang me up having rcvd my symptoms and said Take Bry. I
responded but I don't have Bry symptoms. She said TAKE Bry. I did and was
better!!
So in my state I could not even see Bry!!
And again because we are prejudiced towards near family members, we should
avoid treating them - unless the case is VERY clear indeed.
Kindest regards
May the LORD help us to be better tools.

Hi Soroush,
I agree with you, and also with Kent who said 'you can't seperate
Homoeopathy and religion'.

This is not always true, it depends on the person and his techniques.
A more objective, selfcritical person will be able to prescribe for himself
and his family.
Sometimes I ask a homeopath what their constitutional remedy is, and some
say they don't know (never gave it a thought).
I think to know yourself is very rewarding, when you're not able to
understand yourself, how can you understand someone else?

Thanks for your comments, Piet. My experience is rather like yours. Some
people are able to "compartmentalize" better than others -- to create
separate roles and mindsets situationally. As with any ability, it can be
helpful, and sometimes it can also cause trouble, so there's no absolute
good or bad value to place on this ability. However, to treat people close
to one or to treat oneself, one must be able to do this firmly. Likewise,
some people are able to be absolutely clear in an emergency and others
aren't (I guess this is just a different dimension for
compartmentalization).
Personally, I can compartmentalize fairly well normally, so I have
relatively good success treating myself and my family. But in an emergency,
I don't think especially clearly, so I also resonated with Soroush's (I
think it was his...) story about needing BRY, and having a friend tell him
so.
Hahnemann and other great homeopaths treated themselves and also
experimented on themselves as a way of learning about the remedies -- a good
way to do this. When treating family members, though, another hazard
arises, which is how forgiving they will be if we don't meet their
expectations -- so it's probably wise to think judiciously about one's
relationship with the individual in question as well as that person's
temperament before treating him or her.
