bioidentical hormones

A friend of mine who suffers from mild, ongoing depression and who has recently consulted a homeopathic nurse practitioner to no avail was sent by the homeopath to see an osteopath. The osteopath has suggested “bioidentical hormones”, saying that my friend has low hormone levels. Unfortunately, my friend does not have access to a more competent homeopath at the present time. Does anyone have any thoughts on taking “bioidentical hormones”? Thanks in advance for any help on this subject! Teresa (Northern VA)

Thanks, Cyndiann! That article (no trouble following the link to it!) was
certainly enough to make me not want to take those hormones, but I have a
wonderful homeopath. I guess my friend will have to think hard before she
follows that osteopath's suggestion. Teresa (Northern VA)

Tanya, I do know, having worked with very good ones by phone for two years--and mostly by phone/email with my present homeopath. The problem is, in the case of my friend who was advised to take bioidentical hormones by the osteopath to whom she was sent by a homeopath, my friend is firmly entrenched in allopathy (she’s a medical technologist by profession, father was a pharmacist) and having had no noticeable success with the one homeopath, she now is loathe to believe that that **was the one homeopath, not the science/art of H**.
Until she experiences at least one glowing success with H, she will probably never go to another H. Catch 22! I have sent her books and articles and all, but not to much avail.
Maybe she will get the flu and I can suggest Oscillo, but I don’t wish something like that on her, much as I would like her to have an epiphany about H. Teresa (Northern VA)

Teresa, I and many of my clients use natural progesterone with no problems. It is taking away from the $$$$$ of big pharma so of course you are going to hear negative stuff but I certainly would not listen to the US TV. It makes me laugh often the stuff they come up with. Do research of wild Mexican yam and progesterone USP. In your friends testing did they find too much or too little estrogen? Thanks Kathy

can appreciate where you are coming from. i often say that people's belief in allopathy
is akin to a religious faith and all the logic in the world wont shatter a faith based belief
system. too bad, huh! i have a few people like that in my life, too. it is very frustrating.
i work on detachment a lot it seems.

just read this quote and found it aprospos of your situation with your friend
A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom. But tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason": Thomas Paine - Common Sense -[January 10, 1776]

The article/program set out to debunk high-dose topical
bioidentical hormone replacement.
This is quite different from *lowest effective dose oral
bioidenticals* by Rx which are the most precise.
Women are being started and maintained at about 1/3 the
estrogen given in HRT some 10 years ago. Oral micronized
bioidentical progesterone can eliminate various untenable
gastrointestinal side effects of other oral and topical
progesterones. Homeopathy is grand, but may not resolve
devastating menopause problems for all women, so this is an
alternative.
There are also low dose topical bioidenticals. I'm not as
keen on the topicals as the orals for various reasons, but
many women like them.
Lots of differentiations to be made in the area of bioidentical
hormones and HRT. It would be entirely unfair to write off
bioidentical hormones wholesale based on the article/program.

That is very useful, Kathy! Thank you! I forwarded to my friend who may get back to me on the estrogen issue. I did suggest that she give her Nurse Practitioner/homeopath the results of the tests the osteopath is going on. She said she would do that. I feel certain that the simillimum in the minimum dose would work for her since she has not been on too many meds over the years and has good diet and exercises and all, but I guess this homeopath just didn’t find it. I will be interested to see (and will let you know) what I hear from her in this regard. Teresa (Northern VA)
