new study says:

Antidepressants increase the number of attempted suicides, but on the
long run mortality is lower.
Sigh.
More attempts - Less successful.
What happens to those who attempted more often because of the
antidepressants?
The world of statistics.
They'll probably see it as a success.

Conclusions
Among suicidal subjects who had ever used antidepressants, the current
use of any antidepressant was associated with a markedly increased risk
of attempted suicide and, at the same time, with a markedly decreased
risk of completed suicide and death. Lower mortality was attributable to
a decrease in cardiovascular- and cerebrovascular-related deaths during
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor use.

Can someone explain what this part means: "Lower mortality was
attributable to a decrease in cardiovascular- and
cerebrovascular-related deaths during selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitor use."--doesn't that mean e.g. strokes and heart attacks?

As far as the higher rate of attempted suicides is concerned:

This is a risk with *all* successful treatment of depression. We were
warned of that in Naturopathic School, and you can e. g. find it on
relevantd sites in the net also.

A person in a deeply depressed state does as a rule not have the
energy for attempting suicide. As the depression gets better, there
often occurs a state of "higher energy + remaining depression" - this
is a high suicide risk situation.
