i have a couple of questions regarding your good suggestions.
pulsatilla is acting wonderfully for her (200c)
but i don't think it's touching the miasm that includes cirriohsis...so some
would claim that i haven't found her constitutional.but she is responding
very well with this remedy, although her liver continues to deteriorate.
are you suggesting that I give her intercurrently a mother tincture? Carduus
Benedictus seems to fit well, although i'm finding it difficult to find the
tincture.

Hi Bonni,
I just came back from the Lyteforce list and Ramachandra has posted
few cases that jogged my memory of a cirrosis case I treated.
I used Tuberclainum 1 M for a cace that was early cirrhosis with
prolonged jaundice in a child of 5 yrs, about 9 years back.

I think Tuberculinum is the antimismatic nosode indicated in
Cirrhosis. As ramachanfra's expereince confirms this. Cirrhosis is
an expression of destruction. This is a combination of Psora and
Syphilis which expresses as Tubercle miasm or Pseudopsora.

Pulsatilla is predominantly antisycotic. Probably the ladies history
has a predominant sycotic miasmatic trait. So if Puls is
consitutional and now you have to deal with the heriditary miasm,
Tuberculinum 1M is what is needed as intercurrent.

tell me the symptom related to the Cirrhosis (probably from the time
that liver function has been greatly compromised). I could give you
an idea about the mother tincture that will help.

Dear Doctor Leela,
She has no symptoms to note regarding the cirriohsis. The deterioration of
her liver was discovered at a routine medical check up and her mother and
grandmother both had this wit apparently no drinking history. I felt carduus
benedictus could be helpful based on the Compositae plant family common symptoms
(Sankaran).
So i was wondering based on your original email if I would give her this in
a tincture repeated daily? this is new ground for me..I don't use tinctures in
my practice, but that's because i'm not familiar with them. Ideologically, I
like to remain open .
So I don't know...

I would be wary of using Mts unless you are a medically Qualified
herbalist as well, or know one:-)

I have seen some apparently innocuous MT prescriptions cause
problems - remember MTs are not the same as giving dilute remedies,
the same rules don't apply!

Hi BOnnie, there is usually a reason why the cirrhotic canges being
to develop, from the homeopathic perspective. It is the weakness of
the liver - if you like.

Routine medical check up you mean something like a scan or a blood
test? We need to have something reliable to test the progress on the
remedy - if sympotms are not available them we have to rely on the
blood tests.
Could you give me detials of that medical check up? If it was a
scan, then the compete descriptive report.
We'll take it from there.

Also, does she have any varicose veins in the lower extremities?
Does she have haemorrhoids? Does she ahve any swellings? Dose she
have any digestive problems? Any eruptions on the skin? All these
are subtle signs of cirrhosis.

HI Simon,
Mother Tinctures a supportive therapy are a well known method in
homeopathy called Organ therapy - very common in our parts.
Obviously the method used is different to Sankaran. The indication
has to be clear in every individual case as to why the mother
tincture is indicated.

The situations when I've used Mother tinctures for a short while
(offhand)are:
Diabeties
Asthma
Jaundice
Prostatic Hypertrophy
Poor appetite/convalescing
to name a few conditions.
Obviously the indicated similimum matteres more. BUt there are cases
for various reasons (mostly HErings LAw) some (symptomatic) aspects
don't respond to the similimum and one needs a support.

HEre in this case, though I think an amtimiasmatic is required.

I ask because lack of appetite in cats is a huge problem in an area

However if you give MT or herbal tinctures (these are what I use) in minimum
doses (6 drops tds) rather than herbal teaspoon doses they can do wonders as
organ tonics and are safe!! I only had a problem once when I gave a woman
Berberis HT as a kidney support in the hopes it would draw out arthritis
through her kidneys - Listen to one of Ian Watson's tapes/CDs on Arthritis.
He says the urine can turn black. Well the patient came back with radiating
pains in the back which were miraculously cured with 2 doses of Berberis 30
in 30 mins!!!

I am well aware of the methodology and emphasise that I am not
against the PRINCIPLE of using MTs but only issue a warning that they
are not universally safe as has been stated

Some are very safe, others are safe in carefully measured doses, and
others are potentially harmful

e.g echinacea is sometimes recommended to be taken over long periods,
but it is not universally safe to do so; same with Uva uvrsi
(contains an enzyme that prevents the absorbtion of Thiamine and
contains other substances that are harmful in prolonged dosing, maybe
even potentially carcinogenic (arbutin); others can become toxic very
quickly if the dose is exceeded e.g. digitalis, chelidonium. Again
the duration and dose that can be toeratesd will differ from patinet
to patient depending on te condition and susceptability
To reiterate I am NOT against the PRINCIPLE of using MTs , I am
warning those that are not properly trained in herbalism not to
assume that they are universally safe to use; unless you know what
you are doing - they are not.
