Surely Charlotte,
this is a totally unworkable proposal since all foods contain such
substances.... and wouldn't
this be an infringement on the civil rights and more importantly the
human rights of every person on the planet as agreed
by the international bodies....
I was under the impression that Vits and other naturally occuring
substances couldn't be patented ...they would have to be altered somehow
first and then it would be possible to patent the altered product...
e.g. the current crisis over Basmati rice and Monasanto's proposed
patent and the indian/pakstani farmers who have worked and developed
this crop over many generations. Ultimately it's a USA gov't backed move
as it protect the american long grain rice share in the international
market.
Similarly this latest move by the pharmaceutical corporations is a
cynical ploy to prevent countries from getting out of their now
increasingly slippery grasp. Far from enjoying unquestioned control of
the healthcare of nations they are now being subjected to questions as
to their ultimate ethics and goals ... e.g. the blackmail currently
going for the developing nations AIDS medication see

deathwatch series .... pricing policies for vitamins added to products
have recently been the subject of discussion in Europe, and Gov't
have proposed capping of the already over-inflated prices for these
vitamins... probaly CODEX is a backlash move from the industry to
this ...
