Dear All,

I am seeking assistance from minutus group for the remedies of heroin addicted persons. Have there any body who will kindly give his experience regarding heroin addicted patient treatment procedure and the remedies which are available in Homeopathy.

Hi Quamrul-
The same principles that guide prescribing for other problems also
apply to treating heroin and other addictions. The "drug pictures" are
more guiding. I had excellent results in one case with Ars ( patient
had a lot of anxiety and at the same time was so meticulously dressed
in such clean clothes etc.). Generally Ars, Phos, Staph, Causticum
(complements Staph), Opium, Nux, Ignatia, Nat.mur etc. come up a lot.
Give a couple of doses of a high potency and wait. No need to repeat a
lot. Get the symptoms both during an acute stage (after using the
addictive drug) and the clear , drug symptom free stage( this stage is
more important for prescribing- while under the influence of the drug
the drug symptoms predominate). Find out how they started, why they
gave up ( if they have done sometime) and why they restarted if they
do... all of these give clues.

Also look at the physical effects of the addiction - emaciation,
bloating, constipation, pupils, wound healing, sweating, warmth etc.

Read Gallavardin's work on Alcoholism. There is much wisdom in there
even though not all medicines there are applicable to heroin addiction.

Need to add counseling too. Read about motivational interviewing (
search on web - there are lots of online material on this). Having a
positive mental attitude ( physician ) is important.

In treatment of addiction do not forget Lac humanum. People get into
an addicted state for a reason, and the state of the drug often
resembles being in the womb. Alize Timmerman has some beautiful cases
where she treats with high potency Lac humanum, intercurrents for the
acute needs at a low (physical level) potency, and she also advocates
giving X potency pellets for the person to take whenever they feel
the need to use again. I have now 2 cases where I am following this
type of protocol, so far so good, although too early to call them cures. Anneke

Could you clarify what remedy the X potency pellets are -- Lac-h, or an
indicated intercurrent?

Hi Rosemary, The x potency pellets could be Sac lac, as a placebo, or
whatever the drug of choice was, slightly potentized, then the Lac
hum would be the base remedy encouraging the person to come into
reality, and may later have to be alternated with the basic addictive
substance remedy, i.e. alcohol, cocaine, etc. The idea is that when
the addicted person gets a craving, there is something to take that
won't harm him. Anneke
