Hahnemannian homeopathy VS. combos

Just my 2 cents here on this rather contentuous topic:

Weren't the best prescribers (Lippe, Hahnemann, etc.) in past and
recent history single remedy prescribers?

If they were able to cure so many patients of both acute and chronic
serious 'diseases'....then why would combos ever be necessary?
Excuses such as lack of time, modern environmental insults, etc. are
just that, excuses. And pure Hahnemannian homeopathy will still best
meet these challenges.

I've found that homeopathy has enough problems to overcome, shouldn't
homeopaths dedicate themselves to 'mastering' the type of homeopathy
that works best? that is proven to be the best? That is pure
Hahnemannian homeopathy?!

And the fact is Hahnemann did experiment with combinations but dismissed
them. I also know another homoepath who used combinations for two years in
his practise and then suddenly stopped; not sure of the reason though.

Christine -
your quote at the bottom gave me a good quote for the day-

Homeopathy does not need bites from allopaths - it already has too
many dogs biting each other-

How is it ;-)

Hi Christine, List,
snip>
I am, by temperament and by training, a "Classical", and I have never
prescribed combos.

However, before I even started training and before I had ever heard of
"classical" homeopathy I had myself been prescribed combos and have
known people who were prescribed combos.

I vividly recall 4 cases, all of which would fall under the heading of
quite severe and chronic in our classification. 2 of them got cured,
one got a lot better and one , by taking them for years, was palliated
during that period so that her condition was a lot less painful and
crippling.

So I know from my own experience that combos can cure or improve
serious chronic conditions.

I know of no cases where they did harm.

Regards

Luise

yeah- good for a laugh - esp when Dogs go on a vacation ;-)

I only do single medicine homeopathy- but have done combinations and
had good success with them. This was in my allopathy clinic where I
was giving homeopathic combinations in allopathic tablet format and
had quite good success with my fever, infection, cough combinations.
In Chennai during monsoon rains you have a host of people coming
down with all kinds of fever and it was quite handy.

The reason I defend this practice is - homeopathic practice is not a
Yes or No proposition. It is not all white and black. There is a
whole gamut of practices that go under a homeopathic label including
combinations.

Another reason is - whether you like or not you may have to deal
with patients using or have used combos. Where would you learn how
to handle such people except from people who are using them? Esp.
ones who give combos sometimes and also single medicines at other
times. We need input from all and practice tips from all. We may
live and breathe in an ivory tower but when the strange thing called
reality visits us sometimes....

So allow all to post and learn so that your practice might be more
fleshed out and rounded out.

I might not post much about this as I have said a lot in these 2
days- let people mull over it and digest -

of course it is no joy for ones who cannot digest it...

Yep... It occurs to me that other modalities have a similar
situation--e.g. acupuncture, herbs, chiropractic, just for e.g's. In
all of these--and in *any* system of any depth--one can practice more
or less deeply, and more or less strictly, and more or less "singly".
I wonder whether these other modalities have the sort of infighting and
professional competition that we've been prone to--anyone know? I
wonder (often) how much of it comes back to Hahnemann's very embattled
history, and combative relationships with peers and etc.? I suppose it
must, very much so...

so we are not changing the world and the world continues the way it
has been-

since you believe it is harmful you are not supporting it- whoever
is using it is going to continue using it-

Excepting that people will shy off posting any of their experience
lest the group police will penalize-

Well even there I think the classical acupuncturists do look down
upon the practice in Britain etc. ( Felix Mann school for example).
But research ( as against people's opinions) has shown that these
methods are not that different in terms of effectiveness. And there
are specifics allowed as well...

Moreover acupuncture has more support in the allopathy fields (
since it is not medical therapeutics allopaths are not threatened
that much) and this has helped them a lot... both in funding and
organizing them around accepted principles...and in conducting
research...We eschew research saying that this is loaded against us-
we consider even MDs who have converted to homeopathy suspect- have
we not seen that in this list mention that being MD is almost a
negative qualification? Path to progress...

Well I have posted some "rules/recommendations" regarding the use of combos,
seems to have fallen into a void or should I write "avoid".........
The question will then be, how do "they" explain it. Certainly not from the
Organon or Hahnemann's recommendations.
The history of the combos practiced as I presented it comes from European
and especially French MD-Homeopaths (remember that in France and Belgium you
cannot practice without being an MD, otherwise it becomes illegal practice
of medicine) trying to add potentised remedies to their usual practice (note
that I wrote potentised and not homeopathic).
Add to that the fact very few until now used repertories as most are in
English; they based their indications upon knowledge of the Materia Medica
and it soon degenerated into a this for that type of prescription..........
if you read French and want some horror stories, read the books by Dr. Binet
......
As a reaction to that shotgun approach, some schools started using again
repertories and especially Boenninghausen, but still used the potentised
remedies mainly for physical cases, including their modalities, and when
faced with a choice, instead of giving one, wait, repeat, change, decided to
include the different choices together, not caring too much about knowing
exactly what worked. Symptomatic relief ensued and as common symptoms are
common, recipes and formulas soon appeared and flourished..........even
though the teaching still was (and is in the complexist schools) that each
combination, if one has to be created, must be individualised.
OTOH, people like Hodiamont, Lathoud, Charette, kept the "purity" of
homeopathy intact, and a renewal of Hahnemanian Homeopathy is now apparent
under the direction of people like the 2 Broussalians, Didier Grandgeorge
and many others.
To summarise what I know and learned, the complexists do not claim, to my
knowledge, to follow strictly neither the Organon nor the teachings of
Hahnemann, but that they based their practice and prescriptions on a
pragmatic, practical and symptomatic approach.
Does that clarify something?
