Hi,
Well, I encourage you to not read up on remedies that are given you. I
know its hard not to, but it often will bias what you observe and report to
your homeopath. And sometimes you will read a remedy and think 'oh that's
not me - it can't be me' and develop an attitude about it.

I really would encourage you to go with what the homeopath has given you.
If you don't trust your homeopath, you need to find one that you do.
Just my opinion.

I know it is very hard especially when you have been very ill.

What is the background of the homeopath? Are they experienced? Where did
they train? Who did they mentor with?

All things you need to know.

Don't worry. I am sure your practitioner know what he/she is doing.

worst place to start:

But remember: your practitioner is (or should be) seeing a broader

Actually there is a fair amount written about carcinosin, but it won't
be in the older materia medicas. It's got quite a broad picture,
tho... But it's curious that you had a substantially bad effect from a
30c. How many doses did you have--single dose, or more than that? I
wonder whether 6c might be a better starting potency for you? (Some
prescribers "don't believe in" the low potencies... )

I am new to the group, and I came here in search of information.

I'm struggling to recover from a long-term illness, and I recently had
some substantial adverse reactions to a homeopathic remedy --
Petroluem 30C.

The practitioner I'm consulting now wants to give me a dose of
Carcinosim 30C. There doesn't appear to be much literature about this
remedy, and I really want to learn more before taking the next step.

My next move has to be a good one, and I would welcome any information

The previous remedy was Petroleum 30C, and I only took a single
dose. The symptoms it produced were bad enough that I almost had to
go to the hospital.

That is so unusual!!
Not unheard-of, but still very unusual! Have you had other remedies
before, to know whether your extreme reaction is from oversensitivity
to remedies in general, or only to that remedy? I wonder whether your
prescriber is considering (or familiar with) the possibility of using
water doses and/or very low potency (e.g. 6c) for your next remedy--if
the subject hasn't come up, would you feel comfortable asking him/her
about it?

Sheri, the remedy was given in water.

Kathleen, the reaction was quite severe. I suffered a brain injury
about six years ago, one that initially caused violent attacks of
vertigo. The injury also triggered major digestive problems (leaky
gut), which have made it difficult for me to get adequate
nourishment. The remedy violently reactivated those old
neurological symptoms and worsened the digestive problems in a major
way.

For several days I suffered ongoing dizziness and multiple vertigo
attacks at a level that nearly required medical intervention. I also
felt quite toxic (as if I'd been poisoned) and I experienced waves
of sickening flushing. My ability to tolerate foods diminished
substantially.

I understand that remedies sometimes stir up old symptoms, and then
they get better. That didn't happen here. The remedy completely
overwhelmed my system and things continued to escalate.

In the end, I contacted a practitioner in my area who does various
types of energetic healing (sadly, she's not a clasical homeopath).
She worked with me over the course of a week to try and detoxify my
system and get things under control. If it hadn't been for her, I
would have been left with no choice but to seek medical treatment
(which likely would have involved harsh prescription drugs to manage
the symtpoms). I'm still not back to where I was before the remedy,
but she got me through the initial crisis.

This same practitioner is deeply concerned about the choice of
carcinosim, as she feels it would be too much for me to handle. Her
opinions have proven valid in the past, and I respect her judgment a
great deal. That leaves me pondering the next move and searching
for information.

Only one other remedy -- Belladonna -- hit me that hard.

The Petroleum remedy was given in water, but it still hit me
exceedingly hard. I'm hoping to speak with my practitioner about
