I saw her this week and I am finding it difficult to work out if sepia is working.

On August 18 she got in touch to say that the psoriasis was very bad and I gave her Sepia 200. When I saw her yesterday she told me that after a week the Sepia 200 hadn't made any difference so she used a product called Dovonex cream- a Vitamin D derivative just 3 times and then there was a rapid improvement ,She says that she would not have expected that improvement from just 3 applications of the cream and thinks that the remedy must have kicked in. I am not convinced!! I asked for modalities of how it was at its worst-
"The pain was like a sunburn pain rather than an itch. It feels warm and is painful. It is relieved by the warm salt baths. She uses Dead Sea Salt. It was flaking off badly like a snake shedding its skin. It was very red."
However she also tells me "My whole being feels better since the remedy." Her periods are not as heavy or painful although this was never mentioned as a presenting complaint.
I would be interested to know what you think.

Thanks Shannon for your opinion. I looked up about Dovonex on the web and at least it is not a steroid. I hadn't heard about this cream before. My thoughts are being a Vit D derivative it can't be that suppressive can it?

I don't think it is a question of whether it is suppressive or not it
is more about the fact that it is a crude and unnatural dose of
'something or another' that could effect the fine balance of her
constitution. If she wants more vit d she could change her diet and
that then would be less invasive to the homeopathy. is this the client
that seemed to be doing very nicely with a ROS? Psoriasis isn't going
to disappear overnight and I am not sure single doses address it that
well either, especially if it is of long duration. I would be using
LM's I think. Time will tell if the Sepia is good and if her well
being is >>> then you have to wait surely to see what happens. Joy

Rochelle be careful with Sepia in that it is one remedy that has a
beneficial effect in the vast majority of people that are in a vaguely
Sepia-like state (a very common syndrome). I know I find it helpful!
It often makes people feel more alive, less burned out and irritable
without acting deeply. It can be a stand alone Psoriasis remedy too of
course. One sided Psoriasis think of Syphillinum and Thyroidinum but
I havent read your case properly. Good luck

I don't see this woman as Syphillinum and will do some reading on Thyroidinum. The case was sent to the Homeopaths list a while back as that is a closed list.

I assume that this is the same case for which I suggested
Sepia..(started around menarche and progressed after pregnancy- right?)

As I mentioned before, psoriasis ( in general chronic skin conditions)
need protracted treatment a lot of times. Skin conditions usually get
the remedy not just based on skin conditions but on generals or
symptoms based on other "top dog" organs-

which means that if Hering is right- you are going to see aggravation
"downstream" - i.e; in the skin....you and the patient need to be
'patient' ( even in this case Sepia was not based on psoriasis symptoms)

As Joy mentioned it is very rare to see a single medicine / dose cure
for something that is very chronic-( sometimes 2 years is not too long
and many medicines might be required)

There may be intercurrents that are needed and based on h/o
suppressions there may be other medicines needed. Sometimes mother
tinctures like Berberis, Hydrocotyle, Terminalia chebula, Calotropis
and even Gymnema might be given - like purifiers based on local symptoms.

My suggestion is give Sepia high and if necessary put her on flower
medicines etc. for gaining control if symptoms are severe... these
medicines are much better than using a lot of allopathic creams...crab
apple, white chestnut and cherryplum are typical florals for chronic
skin conditions-
