Dear List,

since April 2005, a friend's little Chihuahua, 6 years old, who is a "member
of the family", suffers from a dark fleck with thin and old looking skin on
the right side of her back, followed by hair loss in that area. Now, for the
last 3 weeks the situation has changed to the worse, because she is getting 2
more of these spots and "has grown old over night". The previously happy and
cheerful dog sleeps most of the day, doesn't want to go out of the house any more
and wants a lot of warmth around her. She seems to have pain in her back
(doesn't wag any more). She eats a lot more than before but doesn't put on weight.
Veterinarians think that something might be wrong with her thyroid but say
nothing can be done with such a small dog.
