Hi!

We had the opportunity to watch ABC's Medical Mystery Segment this evening. One of them had a segment on Morgellon's Condition. They had some crazy MD who said everything was in their head..... but most everyone realized that there was some really strange things going on regarding hairy stuff growing out of skin lesions.

One thing I didn't realize throughout all the previous discussions regarding this condition was - that I didn't realize that it eventually, in it's last stages - cause nerve damage, dropped foot, trouble walking, and eventually death. The one man, husband to the woman on the show, had just recently died. His wife is experiencing late stage symptoms, and her children have these lesions and have not much for hope that their mom will pull through, nor hope for themselves to have a normal life....

I wish there was a way to completely repetoirize this condition, and find a symptom match.... and do a homeopathic trial. I don't know if it would include a nosode of these fibers, or skin sample, or another remedy - but I'd be interested in seeing if there was any remission or cure to be had.....

Hi Jennifer,
I just watched this too. Very weird! And I was wondering how one
would find remedies--other than making the nosode. I've never heard of
any remedy that causes fibers to grow from lesions in the skin!!! How
can we find a simillimum for a condition that's never been seen
before...

****Shannon, I know you are aware that some rems we use homoeopathically don't actually produce the whole symptom --- Arnica does not cause bruising etc....... but experience tells us that some rems will work on things even though they have not produced the symptom exactly the same.

I think in the case of Morgellon's, there is a plethora of other symptoms to prescribe on eg.,

delusional parasitosis --- the intermittent sensation as if bugs are moving or stinging or biting --- is a great symptom, and can be there without the lesions.

The types of lesions are crusty, excoriating etc..
There is fatigue
various cognitive deficits
Behavioural effects
as well as the fibres in lesions

There are also changes in visual acuity
gastrointestinal symptoms
neuropsychiatric symptoms
Acute changes in skin texture and pigmentaion
Arthralgias
multiple hyperpigmented macules
increase of billous hair on arms and face

Associated diagnoses are Lyme disease, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue

I think it is interesting that most of the cases in the US are found in California, with Los Angeles, San Francisco and SanJose and San Diago having the highest concentration of reported cases. It is also found significantly in Texas and Florida.

Re the rest of the world, it has an interesting distribution.

So, I think there is plenty of scope for prescribing, without the need for a rem that covers red, white and blue, and black fibres (sounds like a flag)

I'm v. interested in this disease, but being in the UK I don't get ABC - is there some
other way of accessing this programme?

The production of these "fibers" in the skin lesions is very strange,
whatever their internal or external source is. But there are a great number
of other symptoms produced in the conditon, itching, burning, biting,
crawling sensations under the skin. Compulsive focus on parasites.
Compulsive picking and scratching at the skin to the point of self-harm -
most sufferers admit to doing this. Over-cleanliness and overuse of
disinfectants etc. Secondary symptoms of Chronic fatigue, auto-immune
disorders, very often concurrent Lyme disease...Sounds like psora to me, not
really a "new" condition as far as homoeopaths are concerned, and not so
difficult to repertorize. Psora will drive anyone demented, especially when
suppressed.

I was late getting into the program and would love to see the whole thing
again if anyone knows how I can.

I was filled with compassion and desiring to help the people who desired to
become amputees. It sounded like past life stuff to me and perhaps a good
hypnotherapist or NLP practitioner could help.
Does anyone know of a rubric anywhere for desiring to cut ones own limbs off?
Or delusions body parts not part of them?

I found in Kents mind delusions arms don't belong to her : Agar.
Delusions fancy, illusions of :fingers cut off : Mosch.
Halves, left half does not belong to her : Sil.
Toes cut off : Mosch.

But I too am looking it up by hand and quite busy with my own cases.

there is some debate as to whether this is a delusional state or not but reading nancy's
post it seems not but the end result, i.e. wanting to cut limbs off to get away from the
intense suffering isn't what needs repping - as per chris's post this is a mania (possibly
psoric but mixed miasmatic influence?) and that would be a better starting place, possibly
'mania, scratching themselves' and maybe there is a common causation to consider

would like nancy to describe the overgrowth of lesions - is it like a connective tissue
growth, like growing outside the body on the top layer of the skin or something else

I have learned over the years and after gaining a research degree, that it is wise to research all aspects of a 'case' of something, before forming conclusions.

I have read enough this morning to say that I now have some quite serious doubts about the report you saw on ABC and the inferences that were made on the show and the inferences that people are likely to make from watching it --- I did not see it, but read the transcript, and must point out that what you see in these kinds of shows is slanted toward ratings and shareholders profits.

For all the examples and info they gave, they left out much much more.

I also read the message board from that site, which led me to some other interesting sites about this topic.

The father who died was diagnosed with ALS apparently, so not sure why this scene was presented the way it was.

I want to say, that Delusional Parasitosis is a recognized primary and secondary condition. Neurotic excoriation, is also another well observed condition, and well documented. You can find good info on both these conditions on the net.

The fibre evidence is doubtful if you read the refuting evidence some of which is on the link below.

The theories abound -- Lymes, chemtrails, worm infestation (flat, and some as yet unknown ones) and here's a good one --- peripheral nervous system prion disease, with the red and blue fibres possibly caused by left and right isomers.

Lyme's disease has been found in one study to exist in 90% of subjects and remissions of Morgellons symptoms was demonstrated in patients given antibiotics for Lyme disease. (at the very least, this could indicate that bacterial infection could play some role in the lesions --- which is in line with picking continually, as is the hyperpigmentation reported)

I am not going to take sides on this one, however, I can see how much of a mistake it would be to presume it is true and the doctors are insensitive and wrong ---- as well as seeing the patients perspectives ---- especially when the insistence by patients that there is something in their skin leading to the itch and stinging, which cannot be demonstrated by usual dermatological investigation, and the bringing of matter, by these patients, in a matchbox is common in the delusional parasitosis cases.

Maybe this would be a good case for the Myth busters to take on!!

From a homoeopathic perspective, we are lucky to not be too tied to just diagnoses, but can look for answers within our own system. An example of this may be something I read on that message board, about a Dr. in Venezuela in 1965 noted that alot of workers on a rubber plantation were coming down with these sores, and he noticed that the people who ate the animals they killed with curare did not have the problem, so, he diluted the curare and says that it cured the problem. I find this very interesting. Curare does have some skin symptoms --- but it does not appear to be a well proven rem. The doctor's name was Max Stearn.

It is possible, that reports that are now being called Morgellons, are a mixture of dermatitis gone wrong, psychological delusions, plus other causes of skin lesions --- and someone is trying to lump them all together --- which could be a big mistake, as will only cloud treatments.

Our materia medicas are full of delusions to do with the skin and sensations as if ---- that is enough to know that they have existed when they were written.

I am not convinced by the ABC show at all.

Just my Friday morning rant out of the way --- hope has not been too boring for the list
