I would have to wonder whether that is a standard practise - he would
have to have an incredibly good reason to put you through this misery.
If his reason is that he doesn't believe you need the replacement
therapy and you know you do - Perhaps a different doctor? maybe one
who takes thyroid replacement himself. Is it possible to go back and
see him early, so he can see obvious symptoms for himself rather than
waiting for a blood test. For your appointment make a list of your
symptoms to help keep you on track, fairly close to the top include
the symptom of not being able to organise your thoughts coherently
within a short space of time (makes it difficult to string a sentence
together and state your case). Are you supposed to be working during
this experiment? Perhaps you could request a sick certificate from him
for the duration.
A few things that I have found to be helpful - avoid all chlorine, and
flourine for that matter, both depress the thyroid, so water
filtration is a start. Supplement with B12, preferably sublingual or
injection - don't know why it helps the energy levels but it does.
Also B2 is very important - many of the early low thyroid symptoms are
low B2 symptoms. Magnesium can be a big boost taken as required for
fatigue levels (like Vit C take it to bowel tolerance). The thyroid
has a major role in Magnesium metabolism - many low magnesium symptoms
are also low thyroid symptoms. I have read also that symptoms of low
thyroid are the same ones alleviated by Essential Fatty Acid
supplementation? Avoid watching TV, mobile phones and extended
computer use - thyroid sufferers tend to be very sensitive both to the
low level of whatever it is that comes off the screens but also to the
stressful impact of a constant barrage of news stories and advertising.
Look after yourself, your resources will be stretched very thinly, so
seek out anything that energises you, be it a hobby activity,
particular people, massage, or an exercise like Chi Gung. Similarly,
protect yourself from energy draining activities and people.
Australian Bush Flower Remedy, Old Man Banksia is very good for a low
thyroid, and there are a few others that can help fatigue levels - for
example Banksia Robur, Kapok Bush and Macrocarpa. If these are not
available to you - maybe there is a range of American flowers or shell
essences which would include assistance for exhaustion.
And of course - Google Hypothyroid.
Many sympathies,
Gail A.
