[SPAM] vitiligo

Dear Beverley
With Thanks to Dr Parinaz Humranwala (She practises in Mumbai and is
absolutely fabulous) - here are notes I took from her lecture when she
visited LCCH. I hope they are of use to you.
VITILIGO
LEUCODERMA
Vitiligo is a disease that can even be seen on young babies. The skin is the
most versatile organ of the body. Different parts have different functions,
some parts stretch or crease, thicken, change texture, change sensitivity,
etc.
The skin cells are deep and therefore changes become noticeable very slowly.
So the first improvement is when the colour of the hair changes from white
back to normal. About every tenth skin cell is a melanocyte (melanin
manufacturing cell). In Vitiligo the melanocytes gradually disappear.
Other methods of treatment:
Ayurvedic - The Babchi plant.
Greek - Ani Majus or Egyptian plant.
Allopathic - psorialian is injected locally
Steroids
Paro
Skin graft (rarely takes).
Sankran's commentary on VITILIGO as an organ disease:
It is a chronic, constitutional, natural and non-surgical disease, with
localised manifestations on external parts of the body.
The problem from a homoeopath's view point:
Past history:
1- Intestinal Diseases
2- Repeated vaccination
3- TB
4- Leucoderma
5- Asthma
Family history
1- TB
2- Leucoderma
3- Diabetes
4- Suppressed skinned diseases.
Probable causes:
Anxiety, shock or strong internal turmoil
Trauma after severe Sun burn
On set at sites of rubbing (Tight belts, friction injuries, Lips of smokers)
Other diseases such as:
Addison's diseases
Diabetes mellitus
Hypo and hyper thyroidism
Pernicious anaemia
Auto immune diseases.
Treatment:
"If you regulate the mind, the body will spontaneously go right." - Wilfred
Allen.
Mental aspects of having Vitiligo are:
It causes depression, concealment and embarrassment.
The patient feels like an out-cast
Feels separated,
Feels looked that,
Feels neglected,
Despair of recovery,
Feels is a disgrace to the family,
Feels ruined
Feels unfortunate
Desires to hide
In India they are treated almost as lepers!
Areas affected are often knees and elbows, nipples and behind the ears.
(Hura, Nat- m). But of course any part of the body can be affected. The more
visible the worst the patient feels.
Some of the common rubrics are secretive, contempt with self, not happy with
one's appearance, triple chin, triple stomach and legs which look like piano
legs and obstinate. A common theme is "I will break but won't not bend."
(thuja and silicea).
There is also a feeling that they are not appreciated and are neglected
(Pall) and they will also be very clear in their mind about their likes and
dislikes. (Nat-c, Psor).
Always treat constitutionally. Very slowly the skin will revert to the
original colours. The first sign will be hair that will turn back from grey
as hair growth is faster than skin growth.
