Cystic Fibrosis – Some pathological thoughts
From an evolutionary perspective there are theories that say that CF
has persisted over centuries because they might offer protection
against TB, Influenza and Cholera…If it is even partially true –
Tuberculinum, Bacillinum, Influenzinum might be indicated at some point.
Main symptoms in infants and young children
· Failure to grow
· Bulky and greasy stools (steatorrhea)
· Frequent respiratory infections
· Meconium ileus
In newborn and infants there is intestinal obstruction ( meconium
ileus) caused by thick meconium…Knerr mentions Kali.br for this…
(Infants meconium – retention, obstinate constipation with vomiting of
all food – Kali.br)
Probably Opium as well( Knerr mentions this under Infants Marasmus – a
few weeks old, had not grown, but was like an old man, limbs lax, skin
wrinkled, bones of skull had lapped over – Opium)
Since the disease involves abnormal regulation sodium and chloride
Nat.mur might be a possibility. It is also under Marasmus-
Probably Aqua marina which is a scrofulous, blood purifier medicine.
Large, fatty stools and diarrhea are also caused- ( pancreatic problems)
Diarrhoea- fatty, oily ( Boericke) Caust, Iod, Iris, Phos
Diarrhea – Cirrhotic liver – Iod ( knerr)
All four of them seem to be good for the combination of symptoms in CF
in children

Iris looks very good for its pronounced pancreatic action. I saw that
there are some good herbal medicines given for CF in a google search
and many of them are also homeopathic medicines. Taraxacum, Iris,
Chionanthus, Hydrastis etc.
Diarrhea with marasmus – Hydras; incipient mesenteric tabes- Calc.p
One of the current experimental therapies involves Uridine Tri
Phosphate. Since it is indicated for most of the symptoms , Phosphorus
and its compounds might be good.
Since there might be a combination of respiratory and digestive symptoms :
Diarrhea in pneumonia – Ant.tart, Cup.m, Phos
In one of the internet sites Ant.tart is mentioned for CF. Of course Phos.
Diarrhea pancreatic – Iod, Iris
Diarrhea in phthisis – many medicines – but also Carbo.v, Causticum,
Iod, Phos, Tuberc
Boericke has a rubric Diarrhea from tuberculosis – it has many
medicines – Cupr ars and Iodoformum also sound interesting
Pancreatin and Pepsinum(marasmus, diarrhoea, diseases of pancreas,
diabetes and gout)…
