Minutus

I have a patient with a bad chronic case of ingrown toenails. The nails grow painfully into the flesh both at the top and at the sides, and the patient has fungus on the nails and constant inflammation around the nail bed to boot (no pun intended). He's constantly trimming around the nails and cleaning off the fungus. He's had the problem for years.
Silica showed up, he has quite a few other symptoms of Silica, but the mental and emotionals seemed more Staph, so I gave Staph first and have the Silica ready for second. Does anyone have any experience with this symptom? any rep ideas?

i have sufferred with fungus on the toe nails since childhood. under a
period of extreme stress a number of
years ago, the fungus began to spread from the small toe on the left foot
to other nails. it is only in the past year that i

Magnetis polus australis is good for ingrowing toe nail. ( It has
produced a sensation as if nail is growing in).

Colchicum, Sil, Thuja, Graphites, Ant.crud all are good. I have tried
Magnetis polus, Graphites ( black discolored nails), Thuja with good
results.

Teucrium Marum also has this symptom.

Castor equi, which by law of signatures, has an affinity to the nail
is also mentioned. I have never tried this but might be worthwhile.

Sometimes the totality can be too expansive and you might need to narrow it down more
specifically to the presenting complaint and modalities etc - there is a world of difference
between Staph and Silicea whether you are considering the M/E sx or not. Also the
emphasis seems to be on the ingrowing nail more than fungus, which is by the way
difficult to ascertain, sometimes it is just a skin thickening as you get with rx such as
Graphites and Ant crud, but if you have someone who seems to be like Staph and it
doesn't work with the ingrowing nail then have a look at Mag aust - but many other rx to
consider. Joy

You might look at the remedy Mus-mus.
I have a preliminary proving on my website.
It is purely speculation that it will work in ingrown toenails,
on my part.

Thanks for all input on this. In the meantime, Staph seems to be helping the nails slightly (after 1 week) and the generals are improved. The patient says there seems less fungus on the nail, and the part growing from the nail bed seems to be a better colour. Nail bed area still showing signs of inflammation. I'll stay with the Staph as long as it shows movement and will hold the other remedies in reserve. Mag Aust sounds interesting. Another symptom that came up during follow up is that the nails are much worse for washing, which is difficult for the patient as he is fastidious about cleanliness and likes to wash often.
