Hi Christine and Joy,
This was actually one of my snippets - and I find the response surprising. The case was headline news here as the man lay dying over days or even weeks (in 2002).You don't have to have friends in Scotland to verify that I am not making it up! Two minutes on Google brought up several references to it. I presume Joy is not saying the whole thing is *hogwash*. That would be a bit strong.
In fact *hogwash* is a bit strong anyway imo!! Anyway for the barebones of the case you can check this out.

No mention of the homeopathy connection but I am not making it up - promise!

Quite possibly he had inferior homeopathic prophylaxis/treatment - I couldn't swear to that or the opposite. I like to think that in the 6 months between bite and illness something *could* have been done. However, It amazes me that people who are not even sure he existed seem to know more than I do.

I agree that the media do sometimes blame homeopathy when further investigation reveals that to have been unfair but how anyone can have such strong views about a case that they admit to knowing nothing about beats me! Where have the impartial observers gone?

*on the subject of rabies deaths, there was a fellow in Scotland who
died of it a few years ago, following a bat bite. He was the only one
in the battery (?) not to have been vaccinated as he relied on
homeopathy. Oh dear.

Yes, lot's of knee jerking on the list from time to time, it makes me
reluctant to post just because in order to ensure that the 'wrong end
of the stick' is not taken and run with, every word has to be
measured and weighed and the possibility of misunderstanding assessed
- most of the time I don't have time for it, so let a lot go......
not to mention the dogma that gets bandied around. We may feel as if
we are swimming against the tide as we work to shift the medical
paradigm but actually change is happening very fast - what we need to
focus on imho more than anything is being the best we can be - that's
homeopathically, ethically, educationally, and then some because when
we do finally gain acceptance, we'd better be up to the job!!

Thanks for the ref to the case mentioned - I was interested to see it
was not the rabies virus itself, but something closely related to
it........"In November 2002 a 55-year-old voluntary bat warden died
of rabies in Dundee, having been bitten by a bat approximately six
months earlier. The infecting organism was a type of European bat
lyssavirus, which is closely related to the 'classical' rabies
virus." which makes the case even more of a moot point on both sides.
