RE: Doctors Protesting NHS funding Complementary Medicine
Hi Sheri
Emailed the following to Radio 2 programme regarding 'alternative medicine'
Dear Jeremy
I have just listened to some of your discussion regarding complimentary
medicine. The Professor mentioned homeopathy working as an 'illusion'. I
feel that the biggest 'illusion' is that we actually have a HEALTH service
at all. The NHS is overspending by millions as the years go by and unless
doctors start to change their views on what health and disease actually mean
then the NHS is doomed. Most alternative methods are very economical,
especially hands-on therapies, and a good holistic practitioner will not
only be trying to assist their patient in regaining health but they should
be educating their patients on how to maintain health. Orthodox medicine
continues to view all symptoms of disease as a sign that the body's going
wrong and try and stop the symptoms by using suppressive drugs which only
mask the problem and often send the problem deeper into the system leading
to more chronic conditions. Whereas holistic practitioners see these
symptoms as the body trying to rebalance, disease is after all dis-ease, the
body is always trying to preserve life - holistic practitioners aim to try
and support the intelligence of the body in achieving that.
Orthodox medicine is useful for accidents and emergency but as regards to
dealing with acute and chronic conditions I feel it has very little to
offer!
I also do not feel reassured by the so-called scientific evidence that is
given to 'prove' that orthodox drugs are safe and effective as so many of
these studies are funded or ghost-written by the drug industry itself!

Feel free to share with all!!
I would just add that personally I would urge all 'alternative'
practitioners to look to starting a new HEALTH service and not try to
'complement' a system that is grossly failing in many areas!
