Dear All,

My poor 15 yr old female cat suddenly developed severe neurological
sx this afternoon. She fell off a table, threw up and had a difficult time getting
up on her feet. When picked up her head hung to the right. She is able to
move her head but she keeps dropping it to the side and cant really lift
it to the center. Her walking is very difficult. Her legs are weak, but more
significantly, she lists to the right and has a very difficult time staying on her
feet. After a walking a few feet, she lies down, exhausted (so it seems).

She seems to crave warmth and likes being held close. Right now she was
put upstairs in a quiet room, on a sofa where she balls up in a corner.

Movement can be painful for her it seems. When driving, hitting a bump in the
road caused her to meow.

Her eyes seems to stare wide open for the most part.

I took her to 2 vets (allopathic) because I needed a diagnosis since so much
is interpretive with pets. They both indicated something neurological, and brain
related. Although, they seemed to differ on what might me going on. One thought
she might have a spinal embolism. The other thought there might be a brain
lesion.

Her vital force seems strong even though we have been through a round of
illnesses. Most recently there was a UTI infection that we seemed to get
through pretty quickly. But this was followed by what seemed to be a kidney
condition. A consult with an animal communicator indicated that the right
kidney was 'full' and there was an achy pain. Her arthritis, also right sided,
was acting up and causing her pain in her leg--as in sciatica.

Her eating has been very off during this period, although she has been a very
picky eater for years. Most recently, she has been drinking a lot of water and
eating some plain yogurt. Despite being interested in regular solid food, it is
an on again-off again attempt to eat. Last year she had a stomach condition
that resulted in vomiting almost everything except cold water which she drank
extensively. I think the stomach condition (stomatitis?) has/had become somewhat
chronic although under general control.

I am trying to figure out whether her condition is treatable since these types of illnesses
seem to progress so rapidly with cats. Of course, she may have been developing
this illness for years and perhaps I have been relatively successfull in keeping her
going. Any help, advice most welcome. I am too close to her and my grief to
rely solely on my judgement. She has been getting colloidal silver in her water and
low level laser. I have not been able to focus clearly on finding a homepathic rx for
her.

Dear Tanya, I understand about the colloidal silver but can I ask how safe you think this is
and could it be contributary - sounds like a stroke but who knows - maybe a dose of

I was thinking Arnica because of the possible cerebral congestion that might be present
and I would be tempted to opt for a gentle LM or 6c in water and a few drops placed on

also a strange and wild scream that she would do at times, usually
when alone. the animal communicator then reported that it was
similar to a small brain attack like epilepsy or alzheimers when she
would lose her sense of place which scared her. she also said
that she suspected toxicity. this past month with the bladder and
then kidney problem, there was again, a condition of high toxicity
in her body which has affected the brain. it makes me think that
something has deteriorated in the brain from all this toxicity which
may have been ongoing for quite some time and only showed up
'suddenly' yesterday.

the cats vital force is so strong. she keeps trying to behave
normally and this morning did drink a lot and tried to eat which
must be so frustrating for her since she can only get her head
into the bowl sideways; ie, ear to the food instead of mouth to
food.

Sorry to come in late on this, but I'd suggest your cat has vestibular syndrome, which is not uncommon these days in older cats (and dogs). Sudden onset with all the sxs you describe, including difficulty eating or an aversion to food (from nausea).

You should, of course, rep her sxs, but I've had great success with Calc-c. in the three cases I've treated so far.

Interesting!! Vestibular syndrome makes a lot of sense as an explanation,
indeed. Thanks for that potential insight. With a person it would be
clear, but with a non-verbal creature, harder to tease out the vertigo
possibility from other neurological issues.

apparently, with vertigo in cats, there is a particular eye twitching when
the head
moves. i am thinking that it may be when the eye is trying to compensate
for the, literally, cock-eyed view of the world the cat has when the head
is so tilted.
