My reply to that is take Kent's Lesser Writings and look for
Mezereum in the index and you will come across the cases where it
was used. ( I do not have this work handy now - may be some one
else can help out as to the actual case referred)
There is a case of Eczema for which he gives Mezereum - basing it
purely on the conditions of the eczema and mostly based on what
would seem like the common symptoms of eczema- and then says this is
a good demonstration of good homeopathy.
Personally I have always given more importance to the immediate
symptoms ( entrance complaints) them being the latest communication
from the vital force. If they are very common place and nothing to
guide then look into the past. Sometimes there have been significant
things in the past that seem to have a thread that runs upto now and
you could follow it. Or sometimes the present complaints are so
defining that whatever is prescribed now could clear up everything
now, the past remnants and fortify the patient for the future. Some
acutes are really flare ups of the chronic or so much part of it
whereas in some instances it is a layer you remove till you reach
the next one and in some the acute points to the next chronic.
There is no hard and fast rule when we know where we are in this....
some claim that if I understand miasms I would know this ...may be
so or may be not- but be vigilant about all possibilities and for
each prescription weigh in all of these- is this just an acute or is
the same remedy the chronic or is some thing going to follow this
etc. That is what makes this science an art...
In your daughter's case - there are many symptoms that could be
guiding given the current episodes and the same medicine could clear
out not just the convulsions but the learning problems as well. In
fact I would wager that they are definitely related and what you are
seeing is just the next step of a possible minute neurological
problem and so the remedy should probably be based on the
convulsions and learning problems.
one of the favorite rules-of-thumb I employ is -
for a purely "physical" problem look at the mentals and a
purely "mental" problem look at the physicals. In this if there are
many behavioral / mental / memory related problems look at the
physical symptoms - this might be any cold she gets / skin problems
she had etc. Another one of the current threads in this group -
Obsession about disease- is something that would need more of a
physical approach - I would look for any symptom that could be
definitely proved was real and not imagined and the remedy for that
condition or remedies related to that remedy - would lead to a
correct prescription.
So in your case - fill out the convulsions-complex and then expand
to the other problems she has had - do not be afraid of giving your
medicine - they will not make the condition aggravate as long as you
have spent time picking out the right medicine and do not repeat too
much or jump from one medicine to another. Even if it is not
curative it will clarify the condition and probably bring out enough
symptoms to make a correct prescription.
Have you ever tried Sulph for her?
Get some one do a Boenninghausen on the symptoms and suggest a
remedy...get a couple of solid modalities and you are good to go...
I still think Plumb would come in one time or another.... even if it
is Lachesis or whatever at present...
