gasping (later stages of hyperventilating) + breathing, panting. Hope

What is the difference between a lancinating and a cutting pain. Patient describes her menses pain as it feels like someone is slicing my abdomen with a knife!!!
Thanks

Hi Rochelle,

my abdomen with a knife!!!

Jay Yasgur's Dictionary:

Lancinating
stabbing, piercing, sharply cutting; as in 'lancinating pains'.

And here are some lancinating pains from the provings (Allen's Encyc.):
Upas tieute:
- Lancinating pain, like knife-thrusts through the right lung towards
the liver, stopping the breathing (third day), [a4].

Ars-a
Motion in hands and feet continued for a long time imperfect, and he
experienced acute lancinating pain like needle-stitches in them.

Does that help?

Best,

Gaby

Hello Rochelle,
The specific sensation of lancinating is covered by Borx. Of course the location will
expand your remedy possibilities as will the time, i.e. before, during or after menses. As
for the specific term and description of lancinating vs. cutting, I have never had anyone
here in the states use the trm lancinating. But of course the repertory makes a vast
distinction in the number of rx's in subsequent rubrics. Of course if you use the specific
words of the patient then Staph comes to mind.

Best of luck, Rik

Thanks Rik and Gaby,
Since in the rep both words lancinating and cutting are used there must be a
distinction between them. I bet the late great Julian Winston would have
known. He
is probably laughing from above. I wish I had kept some of his emails to me.
What a wit!

Hi Rochelle-
There is a difference between these two. Lancinating is more like
using a spear and I have seen many patients using the term. Patients
typically say that it was a piercing pain like using a spear ( as in
stitching pain they typically say that it feels like stitching).
Cutting is what you are probably looking for in this instance. Slicing
has a sharpness or exquisiteness to the cut in contrast to hacking,
which is also cutting.
