This is the only large published proving of Medorrhinum. Why it was
"translated" is unexplained, since Dr. Berridge was an English speaker with
a practice in the UK. He was a close associate of Ad. Lippe, Samuel Swan,
and Thomas Skinner, and with them, edited the journal The Organon from
1878-1880. Although there are 56 proving sources listed, scant information
is given about some of the provers, who supervised, or what dosages were
given. We find in number 46 a proving done on a "child or children." In the
proving we find the now "keynote" symptom of sleeping on the knees with the
behind up, and the head in the pillow. This was seen in one of the
children, aged five. Most of these provings were done with high potencies
prepared by Fincke or Swan.

Dr. Swan introduced Tuberculinum to medicine years before the same remedy
was discovered by Professor Koch, of Berlin, who made such a tremendous
sensation with it in the ranks of the dominant school. He also introduced
Syphilium, Medorrhinum, and other remedies of like character, now known
under the general name of nosodes. The profession were not opposed to the
use of these nosodes, but the demand was frequently made that they be
proved like the "polychrests." To this Dr. Swan answered that these
remedies had already produced provings which could he found in the
phenomena and symptoms of the disease of which they were the products. This
answer did not satisfy the strictly logical Hahnemannians, and thus a gulf
was formed between them and him which has continually widened. Much more
might be said, but space will not permit the elaboration of the subject,
and it is accordingly left to other writers to treat as they shall feel
inspired

Swan, Samuel

(1814 - 1893) M. D. Born into a family of homeopaths in New England, we
mostly remember his strange remedies he found value in. Graduated from the
Homeopathic Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1866. Swan first
manufactured and proved Medorrhinum and Syphilinum, and then discovered the
value of Tuberculinum 20 years before Koch. Julian Winston has an excellent
