I have been interested to read the exchange about
Calendula eyewash. Aren't most tinctures with
alcohol? Is that safe to put into the eye, even
diluted? Can someone speak to this?

Thanks -- I've also been wondering about that and about the question of
sterility of the solution, which seems to be a prerequisite for eye
solutions.

I checked with Miranda Castro's book and she recommends:
Add 2 drops of tincture to an eyebath of cooled, boiled water and use in
normal way.

The small amount of alcohol will not cause much problem.

I believe a mother tincture is always in alcohol. If you want to use it as
an eyewash, I suggest you dilute it with boiling water and let it cool down.
This will evaporate the alcohol. Some companies offer certain tinctures in
a physiological solution.
