Treating acutes

Following is a dialogue I had recently with a homeopath. I hope you
can follow it. the ****are my replies to her initial reply and the
ALL CAPS are her replies to those.

My initial question is if she's willing to treat acutes for patients
of hers that are currently under care. So I'm wondering what others
opinions are on this list as to how they treat acutes or if they
believe the way she does, that there are no homeopathic acutes.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your input on this.

The "Acute Questionnaire" is on the web site to enable SELF-CARE of
TRULY acute ailments. I only treat CONSTITUTIONALLY and by
APPOINTMENT, NOT by email or phone call about an isolated ailment.
*****OK, I understand that. But what if one of your patients should
experience a bee sting, poison ivy, severe muscle strain, food
poisoning, etc. none of these are life threatening but clearly not a
part of their chronic disease. Are you saying that you would not be
available to offer homeopathy treatment? I know many of your
patients study and would be able to treat their acutes but what
about the ones that haven't gotten that far in their understanding
of it? Are they to resort to medical treatment until they can treat
themselves with homeopathy?
I DO NOT TREAT ACUTE CASES.
TRUE ACUTE CASES STILL NEED TO BE ANALYZED AND SOLVED FOR THE
CORRECT REMEDY AND POTENCY. THERE IS NO SHORT CUT. THERE'S NO ONE
HERE TO ANSWER THE PHONE, EMAIL OR TREAT TRUE ACUTE CASES. I'M AT
WORK FULL TIME TREATING CONSTITUTIONAL CASES.
WHERE WOULD THE PATIENTS GET THE ACUTE REMEDY IN A TIMELY MANNER?
MOST PEOPLE CAN'T GET THE NEEDED REMEDY AND POTENCY. POTENCY MATTERS
EVEN MORE THAN REMEDY SOMETIMES IN THESE CASES. PEOPLE THINK THAT
BECAUSE THEY HAVE ONE LOW POTENCY REMEDY KIT, THEN THEY HAVE WHAT
THEY NEED. TRUE ACUTE AILMENTS NEED HIGH POENCY, NOT LOW POTENCY,
REMEDIES. YET PEOPLE BUY LOW POTENCY KITS FOR EMERGENCY KITS. THEN
THEY WONDER WHY THE INDICATED REMEDY DIDN'T WORK.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU KNOW WHO CAN GIVE AN ACCURATE HOMEOPATHY SELF-
CASE OVER THE PHONE OR BY EMAIL?
BY DEFINITION "ACUTE" MEANS SELF-RESOLVING. IF SOMETHING IS NOT SELF-
RESOLVING, THEN IT'S A CHRONIC CASE.
My practice doesn't attempt to undertake truly acute care. And most
cases these days that people think are "acute" are actually
constitutional cases that they're mistakenly thinking about
allopathically. They wonder why they don't FIND an allopathic
homeopathy solution to them -- It's because most ailments are acute
exacerbations of the underlying CONSTITUTIONAL case, and must be
treated as such.
****I understand this too and often get frustrated when people will
ask me what to do for something that clearly is chronic but they're
just looking for quick fix. But I had thought those who have chosen
homeopathy treatment for their chronic disease could still be
treated for acute things like poison ivy, etc. by their homeopath. I
will tell people that are not under care they have chosen medical
treatment BY DEFAULT because they are not interested in anything
truly curative like homeopathy and until they have that in place
their only choice is the MD. And I will tell them, "don't be asking
me about ANYTHING until you have that in place"
ACUTE CARE IS NOT WHAT I DO. I DON'T EVEN RECOMMEND THAT MOST PEOPLE
SELF-TREAT ACUTE AILMENTS HOMEOPATHICALLY. THERE ARE PLENTY OF
ADDITIONAL HEALING MODALITIES OUT THERE TO USE, BESIDES HOMEOPATHY,
FOR THESE. HOMEOPATHY IS TOO COMPLICATED FOR MOST PEOPLE TO MANAGE
ON THEIR OWN IN THIS DAY AND AGE. THEY CAN'T BUY THE REMEDY/POTENCY
IN TIME, SO WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE TO KNOW WHAT REMEDY IS
NEEDED? IT'S A TEMPEST IN A TEA POT.
There are no EMERGENCIES in homeopathy -- The only thing that
homeopathy can do is trigger healing. It protects and expands the
health that a person already has.
****absolutely. But we are talking about TRULY acutes here that are
not emergencies. Middle of the road things like bee stings, sprained
ankles, etc. Most people would not go to the MD but I had thought
could turn to the homeopathy remedies such as arnica for strains,
hypericum or ledum for puncture wounds, apis for stings. I can only
rattle off those because I've spent over a year reading and
studying. And I STILL would not know how to use them based on my
chronic picture.
And just so you know, I am not talking about treating everything
that this chronically ill body of ours hands out, like occasional
headaches, stomachaches, fleeting nausea, muscle aches that come and
go, occasional sleeplessness, colds, anything that is not a
constant. Just deal with it and know that most of these things ARE
part of the chronic disease and will abate as the body regains its
health. But known food poisoning, a muscle strain that puts a person
out of work and flat on their back, an immediate bee sting…..these
are the things that using the correctly chosen remedy could speed
the healing and keep it from getting as bad as it might otherwise.
And who better to choose that remedy then the homeopath that is
CURRENTLY treating the person for a chronic. I emphasize CURRENT,
not a patient that has not been in touch with you for weeks, months,
years.
IT'S NOT QUITE THAT SIMPLE, BUT CLOSE -- YOUR ASSESSMENTS ARE
BASICALLY CORRECT. YOUR POINTS MAKE SENSE. I STILL DON'T OFFER THAT
SERVICE. IT'S MY CHOICE.
THE PATIENT WOULD STILL NEED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, AND THERE'S
NO ONE HERE TO DO THAT. I'M BOOKED. I DON'T HAVE NOR INTEND TO EVER
HAVE A STAFF.
THE EXAMPLES YOU MENTIONED ARE SOME OF THE EASIEST ONES TO TREAT
HOMEOPATHICALLY, SO IF PEOPLE WANT TO DO IT THEMSELVES, THAT'S THEIR
CHOICE. THEY DON'T NEED HELP WITH IT. THEY JUST NEED TO TAKE
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT THEMSELVES BY READING A BOOK AND OWNING THE
REMEDIES. IF IT'S TOO HARD FOR THEM TO FIGURE OUT AT HOME, THEN IT'S
NOT A TRULY ACUTE CASE.
MOST PATIENTS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN CONTACTING ME FOR TREATMENT OF
THE ACUTE AILMENTS YOU MENTIONED. I GET ABOUT TWO CALLS PER YEAR FOR
HELP WITH TRULY ACUTE AILMENTS, THAT'S IT. THERE'S VERY LITTLE
DEMAND FOR THIS.
PATIENTS USUALLY CAN'T ACCESS THE REMEDY IN TIME, SO WHAT GOOD IS
THE EFFORT TO HAVE ME FIGURE IT OUT FOR THEM? IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY
SENSE. I DON'T INTEND TO EVER BE A 24/7 REMEDY DISPENSARY
If there is a serious medical concern of any kind, then the person
needs to consult with their medical doctor. Conventional medicine is
best at heroic treatment, such as life-threatening illnesses,
resuscitation and surgery.
****again I agree, absolutely CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR but IMO
emergencies are ALL they're good for LOL although I'd rather lay on
the floor and DIE before stepping one foot into the medical
industry's web of woes.
The homeopathy emphasis needs to be on the constitutional case and
on constitutional care, period -- The key to successful homeopathic
treatment outcome is FREQUENT QUALITY FOLLOW-UP DURING
CONSTITUTIONAL CARE. That is the solution to intense acute flare-ups
of the chronic miasm, as we say.
****agree here too but I'm not talking about acute flare-ups of the
chronic disease, I'm talking about TRULY acute ailments.
RARELY DO PEOPLE SEEK HOMEOPATHIC HELP FOR THESE. MOSTLY THEY SEEK
SYMPTOM SUPPRESSION DURING SUCCESSFUL ACTIVE SELF-HEALING, BECAUSE
THEY DON'T WANT TO EXPERIENCE ANY DISCOMFORT. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
FOR EXAMPLE, THE BODY IS HEALTHY AND APPROPRIATELY RUNS A FEVER TO
FIGHT AN INFECTION, AND IT'S UNCOMFORTABLE, SO THEY ASK ME WHAT IS
THE HOMEOPATHIC REMEDY FOR FEVER.
A PERSON PULLS A MUSCLE. GUESS WHAT? IT NEEDS TO HEAL. REST IT. IT'S
INJURED.
THE TRUTH IS, ACUTES ARE SELF-RESOLVING. THE BEST TREATMENT FOR
THESE IS NO TREATMENT.
HONESTLY, ACUTE CASES ARE 10 PARTS WHINING AND COMPLAINING TO 1 PART
AILMENT. THE WHINING AND COMPLAINING --- IT'S CONSTITUTIONAL TOO!!

very interesting. of course that homeopath can chose how she/he does her
practice.

i am not in agreement with her though about some of the self-resolving
complaints.
i think i agree with you that there are acutes that happen in life and they
can be very
debilitating and painful. and there are acutes that relate to the
constitutional state.
however, if i am able to help a person deal with a problem quickly and
easily, i will
try to do so. i had a phone call the other nite from a friend of my
daughter. this
woman has a 10 mo old baby who returned from a week with her father covered
with
poison ivy. yes, the mother's anxiety was her issue, but it was difficult
for her to watch
her baby crying and scratching and the pi was spreading. i suggested 2 rx
over the phone.
the woman called me from the health food store--smart woman! she called
the next day
so say the baby had 2 doses of a 12c potency, which is what was there, fell
asleep and
awoke the next day just fine. i was delighted to be able to help her so
easily. but i also
told her very clearly on the phone that this was very difficult for me
without seeing the baby
and i could not assure her the rx recommended would be the right one. i
did not mind
giving it a shot over the phone. i have done this a number of times with
people and was
quite successful. i once treated a woman who was detoxing from oxicoton,
which i was
not familiar with at the time. i guess it has a lot to do with the risk
quotient one is willing to
take. i know that is a verboten concept in healing where self protection
and success rates
seem to become paramount in how people work. but so be it, that works well
for me.

i would have felt better with your homeopath, if she was willing and able
to provide some
alternative source of treatment for acutes that call her. this is an issue
of mine with many
healers, not just homeopaths. they do their protocol but wont open
themselves to the idea
of referring patients to other sources of healing when necessary. i never
have an issue with
people wanting to try other things as long as they dont interfere with the
remedies. i will
caution them about mix and matching too many modalities. for example, i
often direct
people to chiropracters when they complain of back related problems. i
like to know that
the spine has been examined for correct alignment. or i will suggest
working with a good
nutritionist who is holistic in their orientation. and several people on
this list do other protocols
such as eft which i dont think interferes with homeopathy, but augments it.

so vive la difference!
