Its indications, though not many are very clear-cut and precise.
It is mostly useful in anal abscesses, fissures, fistulae and boils.
The leading indications are intolerable pain during and after stools and the oozing of a kind of moisture from the anus, leaving it constantly damp.
Dr. Hering reports of a case of ulceration of the rectum of 18 years' standing that responded most marvellously to the action of Rx 120. This patient had been operated on several times, but in vain.
His anus and its surroundings were purple and they were covered with thick crusts.
On the verge and entrance of the rectum, there were several fissured ulcers with elevated and indurated edges.
The pain was atrocious with and after each stool, preventing sleep.
He had to walk nearly all night.
There was constant oozing from the fissures.
This remedy compares well with Graph., Nit. acid, Phos., Ratanhia, and Silicea.
In Graph. the pain is violent.
The rectum feels, as if it is split with a knife; this makes it quite inconvenient for the patient to take wide steps.
There are rhagades at the anus.
Every stool is followed by a sensation of constriction.
Nit. acid is also a remedy for fissure of the anus, particularly when there is a feeling as if there were splinters or sticks poking at the anus.
The feeling of constriction, as seen in Graph. is absent.
Phos. is indicated in bleeding piles.
Blood flows profusely with each stool.
Violent burning is experienced after stools.
Ratanhia is an excellent remedy for fissure of the anus, and is useful when there is constriction of the anus.
Stools are forced with great effort and the anus aches and burns for hours after stools.
Silicea is also as good a remedy for fissure of the anus as Rx120.
The patient tries to force the stool but after partial expulsion it slips back again.
The haemorrhoids are intensely painful; the pain goes from the anus to the testicles.
There is usually complication of fistula with piles. [Page 549. ]
Rx120 has a peculiar sensation of splinter in the skin of right great toe when touched.
It is an important remedy for nightmares and dreams of terrifying nature.
