I unfortunately gave 3 12C's to a Silicea. It's an exact similar
because he felt great for a week. Good energy, clear thinking,
total well being UNTIL!!
5 days ago. Now he's having Arthrtic flare ups galore. It's
worrying me.
first his hip, now his foot and knee - too much too fast pealing
away of layers.
I should have used 6C's but thought his sensitivity was ok to go
with the 12.
Now what do I do? when this wears off which it will eventually, do
I repeat the 12C's or go lower potency or what?
Also you think I should do an MS to slow it down or move it on?
I'm really at a loss now due to the fact this man has been so sick.
I had no idea this would happen to him.
He's even passed Kidney Stones which is good but the arthritic flare
ups are getting to him.
Any advice?

Hi Emily,
Can you say more? How far apart were the doses, and did he repeat
based on "schedule", or had you first gauged his response to the first
dose? And do I gather right that the flare-up began about two weeks
after the first dose? How long has it been going on at this point? Is
the reaction still worsening, or improving, or just shifting around?
If it's moving toward the feet/foot, that could be encouraging. How
sick was he initially, before taking the first dose, and what was the
presenting complaint?

Anytime you use a remedy there can be a worsening of symptoms called an
aggravation.

That is why water potencies can be so much more helpful and even then can
have aggravations but it seems often of shorter duration.
You can do test dosing with water potencies, starting off very low - 6C in
water, 1 tsp in 4 oz of water and then give 1 tsp of that. Can tell a lot
from such a dose.

Aggravation is always a possibility when using remedies.

This Man was to a different Homeopath 5 yrs ago due to Rheumatoid
Arthritis.
Was in the Military, VN and has had numerous vaccines.
He gave him Causticum for 5 long years. He made considerable
progress but never competely cured of RA.
Then thuja was given him and it made no difference.
When he was a little boy he had absesses all the time.
As an adult he gets absesses.
He's a detail person, very intellegent.
All the signs pointed to Silicea which I did allot of research on
before I gave it to him.
He had an Arthritic flare up in his wrist when I saw him.
Feb 27th I gave him 12C's am, pm, am total of 3.
He felt great a few days later. Telling me his feet which always
hurt felt 50% better, his mental state was clearing as he put
it "the fog had lifted", his energy was good so he had a total over
all good feeling of well being.
Then March 8th he broke out in a Sinus infection.
March 9th he developed pain in his hip, passing kidney stones.
March 11th Kidney stones stopped, urine looking better.
Hip getting better now shifting to knee and foot.
All in all I'd say it's shifting to his feet.
All of these symptoms are not new.
He's had them all before.
So all at one time from the 8th to present his suffering from Old
symptoms returning.
At the same time his mental state is great.
He just hasn't been able to walk since it began.
He's not complaining because He has great faith in Homeopathy but
I'm questioning how long and how intense this is going on.
I called him and as of this morning 8:30am his sinuses are cleared,
wrist is better, hip is almost completely better, knee is throbbing
less and it's on a downward slide and now his foot is not throbbing
either and on a downward slide. It's not red but the swelling is
still there.
So there's improvement.
It's hard to see someone suffer like this when you know he's
suffered for so many years in his life but we thought most of the RA
was gone with the Causticum he took 5 yrs ago but apparently not
because he came to me with his wrist painfully swollen.
He's coming around but I just needed some input as to his dosing.
I made a judgement call and gave him 12's when I should have given
him 6's or an LM.
Should I go BACK and give him LM's from here on out or what?
If I go back, he could get these symptoms back again.

My suggestion is to do water potency of 6C - 8 oz water/alchohol mix, just
1 succusion, 1 tsp in 4 oz of water, then 1 tsp from that in 4 oz of water
and then take 1 tsp of that and see what happens. Then cut the dilution
to one glass if all goes well, then increase the succusions as needed, but
success each time.

Do you nkow how to do water potencies?

How are his BM's? Many people are very toxic from a clogged bowel -
arthritis, abscesses, many such symptoms are from toxic condition of the
bowel. Bowel cleanse daily with a good bowel cleanser (I used PuraCleanse)
and increasing water to 1/2 of the body weight in ounces (ie 160 pounds =
80 pounds for 1/2 of body weight = 80 ounces of water a day (2400 ml or 2.5
litres or about 3 quarts) make a huge difference (drink every 30 minutes
while awake).

Mm, I understand your concern for his discomfort, but from a prognosis
standpoint it sounds GREAT! If it were me, I would take Simon's
advice, for lots of warm water and a detox diet--most especially
because *he* is not unhappy (you said "his mental state is great"),
despite the discomfort.

I am biased, I think, because in my early years as a patient I went
thru at least several of these episodes (not necessarily arthritis, but
debilitating flare-ups). (BTW--I had lots of chronic disease, and
deep; I have not found this sort of intense aggravation to be *common*,
but the good news is--when you see, it you know that "something good is
happening", and happening at a very brisk pace! That understanding
used to give *me* a lot of comfort, that plus the fact that, like him,
I felt wonderful deep inside, even tho my poor ol' body was suffering.
So, for *him*, I think it could be helpful for you to "have faith",
realize that he *is* already improving (evidently), it should not last
much longer, and the payoff will probably be very clear, once he's thru
this.

I just read Sheri's suggest for water doses of 6, and that sounds very
reasonable, tho not sure I would find it necessary. (My impression
might be different if I were *seeing* him! )

It's unlikely that he would have that response to subsequent doses; or
if so, very much milder. But I would have him repeat *only* once the
good effects begin to lag, or symptoms start to return.

I just needed some hand holding.
When a Patient feels good with little or no aggravations and move on
and you don't hear from them because they feel so good, that's
wonderful. But when you have someone like this, I just needed to be
reassured I was heading in the right direction.

He has been drinking 3 qts of water as per my instructions for a
week now. Took something yesterday to go potty.
So we're getting there.
I was afraid of lowering the dose once I already gave him the 3
12C's. Afraid the symptoms would come back after being pushed out
or nearly pushed out. I've always been taught that you can't lower
your dose because that's what will happen.

When the Px needs more remedy you will know AT THAT POINT; you give
whatever is needed AT THAT TIME
Whatever it may be.
You really don't need to worry about what you might need to do next
because the PXs Sx will dictate that itself.

You mean taught that you can't lower the potency? (Don't confuse
"dose" with "potency"!) I was taught that too, but have found it to be
utterly false. For e.g. (I have since learned), if problems develop
later, within the same remedy picture but at a much more physical
"level", then you would indeed (or so my own homeopath practiced) go
lower, so that the potency can "meet" the current level of the
disharmony. (E.g. I'd had wonderful progress from 10M of phos, but
down the road got a pretty severe respiratory infection that appeared
to need phos, but he gave me a 200c instead of repeating the 10M,
giving me that explanation--and it worked beautifully, so I guess he
wasn't wrong!)

And I have had spells of treating myself with repeated (as needed) 12c,
but a couple of times I (sheepish) couldn't find the 12c, so I used 6,
and it worked just fine; a little less efficiently than the 12 at that
point, but well enough. Altho, there have been other times when I'd
stayed on 6c until it seemed pretty "used up", then moved to 12c, and
at that point when I "lost" the 12 and used 6 instead, there wasn't
much response any more. So, "it depends", in my experience. Don't you
love that phrase?

But not sure why symptoms might "come back, after being nearly pushed
out". Do you mean just that the lower potency might not be effective
enough to continue the process, or that it could actually turn things
backwards? (I have never had any such experience, but I am always
interested in hearing others' experiences, which sometimes expand on
mine!)
