Influenza vaccine marketing

The March 2006 issue of Harper's Magazine has a nifty two-page article exploring the US Government's "recipe" for selling the public on an annual flu shot. It includes how they've twisted -- even manufactured -- statistics to make the case more compelling.
Remember the crisis last year when Chiron's contaminated vaccines were pulled off the market? The Centers for Disease Control suddenly did an about-face and downgraded the flu to a merely "annoying illness" to keep folks from panicking after they'd managed to stir them up about how serious influenza is.
Enjoy the expose!
