query about homeopathy and chinese herbs

I have a patient who has been taking herbs prescribed by a Chinese medicine practitioner, and I've asked him to stop taking the herbs while taking remedies. He started with the herbs several months ago and the picture is too muddy to try to work alongside even if I wanted to.
I want to check - if anyone on this list knows about these things - if there's a problem stopping the herbs in one go or if they have to be stopped gradually. He's taking Hypericum, Melissa and Schizandra.
Regards,
Vera

Dear Vera,
The herbs you mention are not specifically Chinese. They are all Western
ones. Hypericum is St John's Wort and is given as an anti depressant,
Melissa is also an anti depressant when anxiety causes dyspepsia. It is also
a heart and circulatory tonic which helps lower HBP. Schizandra is an
astringent tonic for lung liver, kidney and adrenals . When coming off
herbal Rx expect a worsening of the condition if they have been controlling
it. How much of each herb is he taking? He could take 1/2 dose for a week or
so and then 1/4 dose before coming off them completely unless you are going
to support with homeopathy when he comes off them completely at once.
