Cannot recall. I think she fusses, cries, resists. At some point she began to anticipate the bath and began avoidance behaviors.

Mother, just tonite, told me she thought to try a kiddie pool. She will sponge bathe her or use a washcloth which is okay. So it is not water per se but something about the bath.

If it is miasmatic, she may be carrying a fear of drowning.

And poke away.

Anything special during pregnancy/birth (like inhaling amnion fluid
during birth, and bathing reminding of that)

Mother has not tried the kiddie pool yet. It is just an idea

I imagine mother is the only one who bathes the baby as she is a single mom.

Fear of the bath can be a common fear that can turn up around 2 years of age when there is a bit of a collision of learning and imagination and magical thinking. The child sees the water going down the plug hole and realises that it is disappearing, but they don't yet have a fixed idea of their own size. Their imagination tells them that they could also disappear down the plughole.

If their brain is very good at generalising the fear will expand to any body of water where there might be a plug. I remember my own daughter's reaction to the ocean when she had fear of the bath - it was 'Where is the plug?'

So I guess it wasn't so much a fear of water, but more a fear of the plug hole and disappearing down the plug hole....

That is interesting. I can see a child developing a fear of that.

This little girl reacted after her first bath when just a newborn so much harder to say
what she reacted to. Her birth was uneventful with a duala, at home, in a birthing pool.

Here other 2 children were also born the same way.
