And the 'rules' say when this happens add the new symptoms to the symptoms you used to find the remedy you are on and pick a more perfect remedy.
Imagine what kind of mess you would be in if you were using one of those combination remedies.

I took causticum today. It seemed like the next remedy to try, but no change as of yet.

in one of the comments a person stated that a person was given lyco10m and 50m repeated over 2 years and then developed serious pathology. When a patient goes to a homeopath they obviously are trusting them and wouldn't know that such things can happen, thinking homeopathy is safe/natural.Can this happen with 6c 12 c or 30c? if the remedy is stopped then will the new pathology go away?

I think homeopathic remedies all have the potential of creating provings.
Some of these provings can become chronic conditions, altho there is not
much data on this happening with and frequency.
I have personally taken daily repeat doses of remedies in many potencies w/o negative effects.
However, close attention needs to be paid to the response to the remedies. If reaction ceases,
a different potency can be tried, but if still no response, I would stop the remedy and retake the case
to see what has changed. Taking a daily remedy for years sounds like no one was paying attention to
the patient as I doubt a good remedy will continue to give effect over that time. The patient should
improve or change so that the picture changes and a new remedy, or none, will be needed. Hope that
is written clearly.

Good question. I was given a remedy by a homeopath who kept me on that remedy for years. It was Ambra grist. The remedy worked pretty well for me. But I started to develop uncomfortable side effects and had to stop taking it. I got thick skin and warts -never having any of that before. Years of taking that remedy had me worried. Would thick skin and warts graft on? The answer was NO, without the stimulus of the remedy I could not sustain the unnatural state. Warts went away and my normal skin returned.
You can not get permanent sx from a remedy unless they were already there.

then do provings go away on their own if all remedies are stopped? if they do cause new symptoms is it only stuff that the person would have already gotten?? or stuff the person would never had gotten?
does a person then have to go to homeopath and have all the symptoms taken to reverse it?
thanks

it depends. sometimes, maybe most of the time, proving symptoms go away on their own.
just like in remedy provings themselves.
there are occasions when the proving symptoms become a problem.
i never saw any data on how frequently this can happen. it seems more
rare than not

One of the reasons Hahnemann instructed to use split doses (in water) and to change the potency (up or down) with each dose, was to prevent inadvertent Provings, and to limit the amount of time Proving symptoms would last for either a Proving resulting from repeating too often or Proving symptoms occurring at the end of treatment from properly prescribed remedies.
Best,
Lynn

I would say you would only keep stuff you already had, not something you did not have a succeptability to.
