Thank you Joy - I agree with all you say, but the scrupulous hygiene only started once I had recognised the onset of hepatitis - the day before, when my son was feverish, he would have been infectious (if you accept that people can pass on microbes), and I shared a drink can with him repeatedly.

I am pretty sure that Hep A in mainstream view is foecal-oral or fomite route of transmission, not saliva to saliva.

Ususally, yes, but it is also possible with any bodily secretion, apparently.
