This harks back to a very interesting discussion long ago about
whether miasms are specificaly caused by infection or not, or whether
they exist in their own right

Hi Simon,

Peter Fraser wrote an interesting book: 'The AIDS Miasm
Contemporary Disease and the New Remedies':

Technological advances, particularly advances in communication technology,
create stresses in the vital balance of human beings. These stresses are
countered by symptoms, diseases that match the original stresses.

In some circumstances the new technology is so significant that it brings
about a major shift in our understanding of the world. These major shifts
are answered by a myriad different diseases but one, venereal disease
encompasses the spirit of them all. These are the main miasmatic diseases.

Psora was the response to speech and tools;
Sycosis was the response to writing and the wheel;
and Syphilis was the response to printing and industrialization.
In our own time AIDS has been the response to the stresses induce by
electronic media.

Miasmatic remedies are ones that correspond to some part of the diseases
that arise from the dynamic stresses, not just ones that are used to treat
the miasmatic disease itself.

When we have acclimatized to technological change and found a new balance
the stresses involved in maintaining that balance are different and a new
set of semi miasmatic diseases arise.

The Hydrophobic or Acute Miasm corresponds to settled Psora;
the Tubercular to settled Sycosis
and the Cancer to settled Syphilis.
It is too early to be sure about what settled AIDS will be but there are
indications that it may correspond to a CJD/Alzheimer's Miasm.

As each individual replays the evolution of both his species and his
culture. So it follows that the individual may be particularly affected by
the stresses of a particular point in his development. This may be a very
specific point or it may be more general and miasmatic.

By looking at the combined pattern of the stresses, the nosode and the
remedies that appear to belong to the miasm it is possible to form a picture
of the miasm as a whole. Using proving symptoms to describe that picture
ensures that they are described in the language of the remedies and allows
some understanding of the slight differences between remedies when dealing
with very similar issues.

I recommended this very book not long ago!
:-)
and see:

then choose "AIDS MIASM NOTES'
for associated stuff and snippets from his lecture

Dear Ardavan,

Thank you for responses. I agree with you completely that for becoming
diseased there is no need for previous miasmatic influences but I have
another question.
As you know we have acute (and half acute) and chronic miasms and acute
miasms cause acute and transient reaction in VF (outcome is death or
recovery) but chronic ones induce (as you said before) "PERSISTENT,
IMPERFECT reaction in VF and being Acute and Chronic depends on the nature
of miasm ( acute miasm cannot be chronic!). Regarding "Non-infectious
agents" how we can classify them as acute and chronic and how we can
discriminate between "Persistent, imperfect reaction of VF" induced by
"non-infectious agents several years ago (or in previous generation) and
activation of dormant or latent maisms.

Kind Regards,
Nader

Dear Joy,

It seems that my definition of the terms 'miasms',
'adaptibility', 'health' and also my expectations from
the power of adaptibility of human beings are
different than yours! No problem!!

Dear Piet,

I love this metaphysical concept.

If we actually go further and expand our model we will
reach an ontological and episthemological model in
which many of our limited concepts have different
meanings. I love Johann Gottlieb Fichte's
philosophical model with its main keywords as 'Ego'
and 'Non-ego'; the first split in pure consciousness
(which cannot be defined). I believe that this
mysterical first split was the origin of what we call
'being' because without such split knowing and
self-consciousness are meaningless. Gradually this
split grows and 'terms' form and we have the world
with all its diversity. Then a paradoxical conflict
forms; a desire to create the 'terms' and a nostalgy
for the initial unity. A conflict between 'being' and
'nothingness'; the two products of the 'split'!

If you expand our limited models to metaphysical
models and use the essence of concepts, yes... I agree
with you. It is a nice model. Then 'health' and
'disease' can also be used as terms to reflect the
components and also the nature of this original
split!!

I beleive that it is better to leave these types of
models to be discussed in an episthemological
framework. To have a pragmatic model for cure, there
is no need to go so much deep but we should go
somewhat deep to reorganize our paradigm.

Ardavan

Dear Simon,

Do you mean the old model of 'spontaneous creation'??
It was one of the old models for explanation of
infectious states. It is interesting to know that J T
Kent believed in spontaneous creation (when he writes
about pulomonary tuberculosis). Hahnemann was a
follower of 'Animalcule' (Small animals - microbes)
model which clearly talks about this in his article
about Asiatic cholera.

You can find more about this old theory in textbooks
of medical history.

Dear Nader,

It is not the quality of the agent (affecting on VF)
which defines the terms 'acute' and 'chronic'. What
defines them is the VF reaction to the agent and
initial induced state. I do not agree with the common
definition of the words 'acute miasm' and 'chronic
miasm' having a substantial link to the quality of the
agent.

An agent may result in either 'acute' or 'chronic'
states depending on the susceptibility and
adaptibility of the individual. And yes... some agents
affecting human being with 'normal' susceptibility
USUALLY lead to either acute or chronic states!

I find it interesting, and I think we can extrapolate from the quantum
phenomena where particles are observed to come into existence
spontaneously. That they are observed of course is perhaps the crux.
The point being of course that if this can occur at the most basic then
it can occur at all other levels. I doubt there's much to dispute just
it would be interesting to know whether this phenomena had been
observed at other levels in the laboratory.

I have no idea whether the discovery that particles can spontaneously
come into existence supports or confirms the theory that all of
existence does

In your other posts you seem to pretty much be working along Steiners
theosophical lines . Is Steiner one of your interests?

Then there's that theory of... blanking out of the name... little
beasties morphing among different forms, according to changes in their
surroundings? This is pretty close to "spontaneous generation", when
e.g. a previously benign lifeform changes to become toxic. What's the
name of that theory, and its originator?
