Re: Science

Well, I think we are all agreed that the successful practice of
"classical" homeopathy requires (tho some emphasize one side more, and
others the other) some ability with both aspects: its "science"
(materia medica, rules and expectations re prescribing and patient
management, knowledge of disease, healing, health, etc.) and its "art"
(which can certainly embrace intuition, creativitiy, innovation, and
all that). The only quibble seems to be whether we *call* it a
"science" or an "art". I'm kind of flummoxed about why it matters,
actually... It is what it is, and if someone wants to know whether
it's "scientific", they can (a) get clear about what "scientific" means
to "them" (since no one is ever convinced by someone else's
definition), and (b) find out about homeopathy. Then they can decide
for themselves whether or not the two pictures seem to *them* to
overlap. To me there seems a generous tho partial overlap, not really
too different from many other branches of "science"--but maybe that's
just because I "like science" and I "like homeopathy", and don't tend
to get too attached to absolutes.
Cheers,
Shannon

?? I thought we were discussing definitions and "qualifying
characteristics" of "science", not of "therapy"???

"Science" is about method, *not* about results!
When the accurate application of "method" does not lead to appropriate
"results", that is what tells us that more work needs to be done on
either the method or the tools or the application, any or all--whether
in homeopathy or "any [other] science"!

Was Einstein not a scientist because he didn't manage to finish his
Unified Field Theory?

It helps to have a common frame of reference...
Are we doing the "Earthlings" frame of reference (I think Chris is) or
the "Children of the Universal Space-Time Continuum" one (I think Simon
is)?

Actually tho, I agree with Simon that "observation" always happens thru
the filter of the observer's expectations (cultural and personal) and
mental / physical / emotional make-up... Simon, is that what you're
getting at?

Nahh... They don't even know how aspirin works, nor "cure", and they
don't know what "health" is. I think we've got better "science" going.

Well, that makes sense to me. I guess I haven't tried to have that
sort of conversation in a while, but I do know what you mean. And yes,
changing one's world-view does take some doing, and some time--some
people really "invested" in the allopathic paradigm, tho probably
without having really thought much about it--"It's Everywhere!!!" :-)

These days I don't go too much farther than offering my understanding,
and if they don't like it, I don't much care... Easier, I guess,
because my only "patients" are friends and family, and all "converted"
long since! And with those friends that I figure I could help but
figure I'll never be asked, well, I guess I've gotten used to that...

On the bright side, some people *will* come around over time. Your
best contribution probably is to explain what you can, discuss what
they want to, and leave it as a friendly discussion, open for more if
they want it in the future, or for them to look into more in the
future, elsewhere.

I know it seems so obvious to "us", but heck, "reality" is like that,
LOL! (Relative, I mean.)
Cheers,
Shannon

Jolly good so we're all agreed that homeopathy is science
and nothing else.

God knows what I'm getting at anymore LOL
ROTFL!
This is what happens when terms are not really clearly defined at the
outset, half the discussion is taken up discussing what we're
discussing

I initially found the question very interesting but but if it's going
to just turn into an exercise in mocking I'll leave it
