It is better to 'see' it as it is or has been taught by Hahnemann and others.
For what it is worth Pyrogen has an acute manifestation within its affinity (septic fevers being one example) and for this reason Sankaran places it within what he describes as the typhoid diathesis, which is sub acute.

When a rx has moved a case onward in a beneficial way it is sometimes worth studying the rx that are complementary to the first prescription.

I, too, would have instinctively thought syphilitic in this case but can see psoric link. Kent thought psoric for Pyrogen, Banarjea (Miasmatic Prescribing) says Pyrogen is predominantly syphilitic. Hardly surprising we can see different miasmatic connections depending on the case.

Joy has written about Pyrogen too - did you see? - she places it in the Psoric realm. Whilst all remedies are multi-miasmatic to some extent, and syphilis could not exist without psora, I still see Pyrogen (like Arnica, Baptisia) as syphilitic more than psoric, personally.
have you thought about one of the snake remedies if there is this oozing of blood?

Thanks for the input Joy.
According to Blasig and Vint the following remedies are complementary:
Anthraci, Ars, Bry, Lach, Rhust-t, Sulph. Does anyone know of any
other remedies that aren't in that list?

Thanks for your response Mair. I think today that I will go with the
Gunpowder as the wound hasn’t improved any since yesterday despite
giving another dose.
With regard to miasms and animals you might find the book by John Saxton
and Peter Gregory useful in that respect: Textbook of Veterinary
Homeopathy. It is an interesting read in general if you treat animals
and also covers miasms.

Hi Mair
I have just remembered that he has also released “Miasms As Practical Tools” since I purchased his other book and you might find that one more useful as he gives animal cases. If you do buy it I would be interested in your thoughts on its usefulness – I have sworn blind that I won’t buy anymore books, but you never know I might just be tempted. ☺
