Swine flu

Dear Rafy
MP = Medicating Potency. It is the liquid used to medicate pillules. You buy a dropper bottle (3.5 mls or more) and use about 4 drops with an 8g bottle of pillules. It doesn't cost much more than buying 8g ready medicated pillules. However you do have to have a supply of bottle and pillules(sac lac)

Re: Swine flu
I've treated three cases of flu this week (and last) - not confirmed as swine flu. One was my husband, one my son, and one an adult male in another state. All three started with chills, sore throat, headache, burning in eyes, coryza that quickly went to the sinuses. All three responded well to Nat Mur.
Husband, 39, came back from 4-day airplane trip last Wednesday, started with sore throat Friday, then fell sick on Saturday. Started with Nux-V - post nasal drip was chief complaint and he's been working like a dog. No effect. He also had a harsh, dry cough which hurt occiput on coughing. Did 3 days of Nat Mur 1M (started with liquid dosing, then quickly went to dry - needed about 3 doses per day) which ameliorated well and then finished with Hepar Sulph. Severe hoarseness and then complete loss of voice began on Day 4. Hepar Sulph completely ameliorated and brought back voice immediately. (Was sick 5 days total but the last 2 days were just clearing up the symptoms).
Adult male, mid-30s, began with aching in lower limbs and lower back with the other symptoms. Responded immediately to Nat Mur, 30c, 1 tsp direct and was completely fine within 2 days. Only needed to dose a couple times each day with 10sx, 1 tsp direct.
My son, age 8, is going into day 4 and seems to be peaking (worse than first 3 days). His symptoms were mild first 3 days - Day 1, just felt very tired with a mild sore throat and headache. Gave him Oscillo at first and it seemed to help. Second day, started with Arsenicum, 1M, 1 T direct because he said he was *very* thirsty and just "freezing" - could not get warm. Arsenicum had no effect but still only mildly sick. Was a little stuffy, headache and sore throat "on the roof of his mouth." Said he was about a 6 out of 10.
Today, day 3, he was a little stuffy, still cold, but now alternating with hot. Wanting the fan on "for when he gets hot" but off when he's cold and kept under a blanket. Gave him Nat Mur, 30c dry in the morning. He bounced out of bed afterward and said he was a 3 or 4 out of 10, not really feeling that sick. Repeated 2 pellets dry in the afternoon when he waned, he played quietly until bedtime. Husband forgot to dose him in my absence. When I got home, he was very feverish, foul odor from mouth, grimacing in his sleep. I popped 200c Nat Mur in his mouth about 45 minutes ago - just checked him, snoring away, no fever.
Husband works at an urgent care clinic so we may get my son swabbed tomorrow to confirm if it's swine flu. Will keep you posted if we do.

Erica

Re: Swine flu
Dear Erica,
Thanks for that. How did you get t the Nat Mur.
The mother of the child phoned me yesterday as she has had the same flu. She took A/G/E 30 4 times on the first day and the fever stopped. She felt better the second today and had phoned me to ask what to take. I said if getting better, nothing, if fevers return A/G/E, weepy again Puls, because she felt she didn't want to be left alone and if she starts with any nausea , Ars.
Phos Ac finished the case with the child who is now running around with loads of energy.

Re: Swine flu
Hi Rochelle,
Sorry, I tried to be succinct but should have given more details. I came to Nat Mur for a few reasons...
First - the profuse, watery discharge dripping down the back of the throat. (Described as "Without being too dramatic, I picture a waterfall dripping down the back of my throat.")
Second - the congestion that felt like it "immediately went to the sinuses like a sinus infection" however did not present like a "true" sinus infection (typical of Nat Mur sinus). Discharge was clear.
Third - frequent sneezing in the beginning.
Fourth - complaint of throbbing head pain in occiput aggravated by sneezing and throat pain aggravated by yawning, only three remedies had both rubrics: Sil, Mag-M, and Nat-M.
Fifth - all three complained of fatigue and mild heaviness (which is a Gels key note but also fits well for Nat Mur - especially in the evenings).
Sixth - I gave my husband Gels (1M, 1 tsp direct) and then Eup (same dose) after the Nux-V but before the Nat Mur because he had frequent urination and aching eyes but neither helped.
Seventh - Gelsemium is noted as thirstless and all three were quite thirsty for cold drinks.
So, I tried Gels, Ars (for son - eyes burning and severe thirst), Eup variously with no results.
4th case today (wife of other male adult) - started with sour belching and fatigue - one dose of Nat Mur, 200c, 1 tsp direct completely ameliorated. We'll see! I read this morning on the NCH flu board that another case did well with Nat Mur. I know it's generally not thought of for flu. Generally, Gelsemium, Arsenicum, or Eup-P really do seem to fit. But I'll be trying Nat Mur first if the symptoms are similar.
Son today - much better says only remaining symptom is sore throat which is worse swallowing saliva than liquid or food so I may change him to Lachesis which he usually resonates with well or Sulphur which is what I think he needs as a chronic right now, too. Overall though he seems to be feeling better and he says the sore throat is the only remaining symptom.
Hope it helps!
Truly,
Erica

Re: Swine flu
Thanks for that. Just had a phonecall from Mum who had the flu and she still isn't 100% - achy and she says she has just taken another A/G/E and she has also taken a Puls as she was weepy. I have told her to take a Gels if neither makes her feel better. She thinks her son is starting with it and has giving him an Aconite in the hopes it may go away!!
Incidentally - Husband heard from his sister in London today. Her adult daughter has fever + vomiting, aching etc and hasn't eaten or drunk for 48 hours as she can't keep even water down. Her doctor told her to put up with it but also gave Tamiflu. She vomited just after taking it. She told him and said she was worried because she has not kept anything down for 48 hours so apparently he prescribed an anti emetic pill to suck and then told her to take another Tamiflu. Guess what - she vomited again.
I have phoned and asked with frustration why she didn't think of phoning me . (They love their allopathic medicine and wonder why they are always ill!!) I suggested that they got hold of some Nux Vom as you can buy the 30C in any health food shop in UK and try that!!!!

Why didn't you just tell her to take a couple of asprins? Would have got the same result and probably saved her some money.

hello Chris
Aspirin? For 'flu? That's asking for problems. Here's a bit by someone I sorely miss on this list - JW (and remember that aspirin lowers Vitamin C levels, which is NB for immune system)

Influenza-1918: Homeopathy to the Rescue
by Julian Winston
It was called "the Great White Plague." It is hard to imagine the devastation caused by the Flu Epidemic of 1918-19. People who lived through it reported that some one who was up and well in the morning could be dead by evening.
Dr. H. A. Roberts was a physician on a troop ship at the time. Another boat pulled alongside to get any spare coffins- it's mortality rate was so high. On his return to port, the commander said to Roberts, "used all your coffins?" To which Roberts, who had been treating his ship with homeopathy, replied, "Yes, and lost not one man!"
The following is an extract from an article entitled "Homeopathy In Influenza- A Chorus Of Fifty In Harmony" by W. A. Dewey, MD that appeared in the Journal of the American Institute of Homeopathy in 1920.
Dean W. A. Pearson of Philadelphia collected 26,795 cases of influenza treated by homeopathic physicians with a mortality of 1.05%, while the average old school mortality is 30%.
Thirty physicians in Connecticut responded to my request for data. They reported 6,602 cases with 55 deaths, which is less than 1%. In the transport service I had 81 cases on the way over. All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment. One ship lost 31 on the way. H. A. Roberts, MD, Derby, Connecticut.
In a plant of 8,000 workers we had only one death. The patients were not drugged to death. Gelsemium was practically the only remedy used. We used no aspirin and no vaccines. -Frank Wieland, MD, Chicago.
I did not lose a single case of influenza; my death rate in the pneumonias was 2.1%. The salycilates, including aspirin and quinine, were almost the sole standbys of the old school and it was a common thing to hear them speaking of losing 60% of their pneumonias.-Dudley A. Williams, MD, Providence, Rhode Island.
Fifteen hundred cases were reported at the Homeopathic Medical Society of the District of Columbia with but fifteen deaths. Recoveries in the National Homeopathic Hospital were 100%.-E. F. Sappington, M. D., Philadelphia.
I have treated 1,000 cases of influenza. I have the records to show my work. I have no losses. Please give all credit to homeopathy and none to the Scotch-Irish-American! -T. A. McCann, MD, Dayton, Ohio.
One physician in a Pittsburgh hospital asked a nurse if she knew anything better than what he was doing, because he was losing many cases. "Yes, Doctor, stop aspirin and go down to a homeopathic pharmacy, and get homeopathic remedies." The Doctor replied: "But that is homeopathy." "I know it, but the homeopathic doctors for whom I have nursed have not lost a
single case." -W. F. Edmundson, MD, Pittsburgh.
There is one drug which directly or indirectly was the cause of the loss of more lives than was influenza itself. You all know that drug. It claims to be salicylic acid. Aspirin's history has been printed. Today you don't know what the sedative action of salicylic acid is. It did harm in two ways. It's indirect action came through the fact that aspirin was taken until prostration resulted and the patient developed pneumonia. -Frank L. Newton, MD, Somerville, Massachusetts
Aspirin and the other coal tar products are condemned as causing great numbers of unnecessary deaths. The omnipresent aspirin is the most pernicious drug of all. It beguiles by its quick action of relief of pain, a relief which is but meretricious. In several cases aspirin weakened the heart, depressed the vital forces, increased the mortality in mild cases and made convalescence slower. In all cases it masks the symptoms and renders immeasurably more difficult the selection of the curative remedy. Apparently aspirin bears no curative relation to any disease and it ought
to be prohibited. -Guy Beckly Stearns, MD, New York
Three hundred and fifty cases and lost one, a neglected pneumonia that came to me after she had taken one hundred grains of aspirin in twenty-four hours. -Cora Smith King, MD, Washington, DC
I had a package handed to me containing 1,000 aspirin tablets, which was 994 too many. I think I gave about a half dozen. I could find no place for it. My remedies were few. I almost invariably gave Gelsemium and Bryonia. I hardly ever lost a case if I got there first, unless the patient had been sent to a drug store and bought aspirin, in which event I was likely to have a case of pneumonia on my hands. -J. P. Huff, MD, Olive Branch, Kentucky.
In reading the accounts of the epidemic it seems that most of the deaths were caused by a virulent pneumonia that was especially devastating to those who depressed their system with analgesics-the most common being aspirin.
The Physician from whom I first learned homeopathy, Raymond Seidel, MD, HMD, said that he decided to be a homeopathic doctor during the flu epidemic when he was working as a delivery boy for a homeopath in New Jersey. Raymond Seidel told me that he decided to become a homeopathic doctor when he was a ten-year old delivery boy for a local homeopath. He said, "I saw that the people who were taking aspirin were dying, about half those who were drinking a lot were dying, and those that received homeopathic remedies were living."
