I've seen patients get very sick from remedies given to them by classical homeopaths...pass the antibiotics...

Do you also wait for 6 weeks if they are on allopathic medicines?
Do you allow your patients to be on allopathic medicines when they are
on homeopathy?
Have you noticed that they are worse off taking homeopathic
combinations than taking allopathic drugs for example say antibiotics?
Are these combinations of mother tinctures or potencies?
I am not arguing here - but in India ayurveda has been practised for
more than 2000 years and the combinations that they are using ( mainly
of herbs) are not different much from what we use in low potency
combinations...and people have been gobbling up for millennia mostly
without side effects...
Also, if the combinations make people that sick, homeo pharmacies that
make them would have long gone out of business- I thought that they
are still making them only because they are profitable ( meaning
people buy them)- they are not going to make much money out of single
medicine, single dose prescriptions ( at least in India).
If the combinations can make people sick that much then they must be
pretty powerful stuff - I wonder may be a decrease in dosage or a
higher dilution might make it a wonderful addition to our arsenal ( at
least better than creating something using meditation)
some food for thought-

There was also Take Pill A on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Pill B on
Tuesday Thursday and Saturday + Pill C once a week etc - Well you get
the picture. I couldn't believe it and this did not resemble
Eizayaga's model either. The homeopath was from "The Practical School
of Homeopathy"!! Needless to say it didn't work but unfortunately it
was enough to put the family off homeopathy and say that it doesn't
work because of this.
Ive always found this kind of prescribing to be slighty stomach
turning. Its lazy and its not holistic imo. However it is interesting
(to me) to note that the main promulgator of such methods in the 80's
and 90's justifed his approach on the basis of the inadequacy of
classical homeopathy to treat certain conditions. He also felt very
strongly that many people were being turned off homeopathy as a result
of their failed treatment by classical homeopaths. He made great
claims for his mixopathy approach and still has many followers.
Classical homeopaths believe it is the mixopaths that are doing
homeopathy a disservice. Joy has seen many people made sick by combos,
others have never seen such a phenomenon. Roger Dyson ('Classical
Homeopathy Revisited') claims to practice true Classical Homeopathy
and probably last prescribed a single remedy 15 years ago. Others,
strict unicists, claim to be the rightful holders of the Classical
beacon. Both use the Organon to support their methods.
Im not sure whether I should laugh or cry.....
Is there an objective homeopathic reality? I have my doubts. However
it neednt matter, thank goodness.

Yes, but Naturopaths, at least those I know, often do prescribe for labeled
diseases and according to the label/indications on the bottle, they do not
create their own combinations because simply their knowledge is too basic,
too simplistic.
So those are definitely not the references to look at, it is as if you would
say "I have seen complications from cardiac drugs given by people who have
done a CPR/first aid course".
Re the Hahnemaniann justification given was that every remedy was included
based on its provings and on the fact it covered at least some of the
symptoms. In other words they included Arnica because there were symptoms
and signs covered by Arnica, not because "it is good for....whatever".......
.......but those who taught me agreed H and the Organon did not recommend or
justify combinations, despite the Aegidi episode.

No idea, I read those books many years ago when I was just beginning, even
then could not believe what I read and never again opened them unless to
give examples of what not to do...........

I will ask you (from curiosity, not to pick another fight

) the
same thing I asked Christine--can you say more about any of these, and
what appeared to be the reason why the harm had been done--overuse,
high potencies, excessive sensitivity, or ?

Hi JROZ,
Right.
One fraction does a school-medical kind of diagnosis and
prescribes on that - also in a school-medicine kind of way, using
pre-made remedies they consider suitable.
Another, probably more numerous group do iris diagnosis and prescribe
on that. Also pre-made remedies.
One of the reasons for using pre-made combos in Germany is that
neither naturopaths nor MDs are allowed to mix their own remedies.
Only pharmacies may do that. It used to be that individual pharmacies
would have stock bottles of remedies at certain potencies and would
mix them as per prescription. They no longer do that.
Another reason is that the specific ready-made combos have been tried
for the indications. Some of them are quite famous: e.g. Traumeel,
Lymph-Myosot, Lymphocil, ......
In both cases it would be treatment "by proven indications" i.e. by
cured symptoms orde cured conditions.
Those are the 2 methods I am familiar with because they were covered
at school. There are others, e.g. the Anthrophosophs, whose treatment
is based on quite different assumptions (no, they do not call
themselves homeopaths). Ant. med is very highly regarded.
There are yet other approaches that use combos - e.g. the
detoxification method of Prof. - I forget his name. They also do not
call it homeopathy.
Some of those people are well-trained and often very experienced and
also successful.
I wonder - did you ever study the provings of Arnica?:-) I did, and I
challenge everyone to show me *in the provings* justification for
using it for bruises, wounds - things like that. So its use in those
conditions is definitely based on cured symptoms, i.e. proven
indications.
This is right - and moreover he did not use them in his own
practice. He was pretty strictly unicist. But no-one, here on the list
or anywhere else, has to my knowledge ever disputed that.
Regards
Luise

Just to clarify things, Traumeel, Lymphomyosot, etc,.... are
Homotoxicological remedies, based on the homotoxicology theory of Reckeweg,
which is different from homeopathy.
Both use the same instruments = the potentised substances, but the science,
the principles and the way of practicing are totally different.
There is a huge amount of excellent clinical research in homotoxicology that
demonstrates potentised substances DO have a physiological action, so it is
interesting for the homeopath to know about it when asked about lab work
showing ultra diluted substances have an effect, yet the way of finding the
remedies and prescribing have nothing in common.
To find it just google homotoxicology, I do not have the references handy...

Hi Luise,
This is a small point, but FWIW--
What I *think* I recall is that the proving produced sensations *as if*
bruised, and this was taken as a suggestion that it might be good for
bruising, which was found to be the case. One of the other indications
for arnica is sensation "as if beaten", etc.
But probably that situation isn't so different from, say, any of the
remedies for "broken bones", since that will not have been produced by
provings either.
Best,
Shannon

Hahnemann discovered homeopathy(similars) by studying the work of
others and by experimentation. He did not perfect homeopathy and his
word is not to be accepted as absolute. He was continuously changing
his own methods. I have found quality low potency combinations to be
especially beneficial with acute symptoms and emergencies(abscessed
tooth, headache, muscle/joint pain, etc.). Paul Autrey

Dear Paul
1- Hn did try Combos and REJECTED THEM!
2- What may be warranted in an emergency (matters of life and death) may not
ordinarily be acceptable.
3. abscessed tooth, headache, muscle/joint pain, etc. ARE NOT emergencies.
