while in total agreement with you about the harmfulness of antibiotics,
in the usa one needs to be careful about warning people away from
allopathy. it seems that in the movement to legitimatize homeopathy,
the biggest concern with medical profession is that homeopaths might
prevent pt from seeking allopathic care. the health freedom movement
always seems compelled to create proposed legislation that includes
statements
of ethics that would make it illegal to try and discourage pt from seeking
allopathic care. i almost prefer the non-legal status that exists in ny, at
least.

Hi Tanya
I answer to a higher authority - my ethical obligation to warn people. My

I don't have to say DON'T get antibiotics
I don't have to say DON'T get vaccines
I just have to tell the truth
Tell the dangers
Tell what I would do
They then can make their choice.

Hi Sheri,
I need to take exception on the topic of antibiotics. I think that
question should be kept in perspective--*sometimes* they are
lifesavers, and sometimes no other option is available. I have used
antibiotics only twice in my entire 52-year lifetime, but I figure both
times they were in all likelihood a lifesaver. Now *if* I'd been in a
time and place that had a homeopath on every corner, no doubt both
instances could have been avoided! But that was not the case.
I have thought back to the "old guy" (what old homeopath was it?) who
said he would rather "die a Christian" (meaning not sully himself with
allopathy) than live a... what was the word? traitor, or something
like it. And as I recall, he did (die, that is). Not me! While I
love homeopathy, I love it to *enhance* life, not replace it! And,
while I always prefer to use a "holistic" approach where possible, I do
not consider antibiotics to be "the enemy", merely "a lower form of
healing" (tho heavily overused and/or inappropriate).
One might reasonably choose to "use the tools you have available",
rather than to live or die by principle. Along similar lines I recall
Julian's remarks about emergency use of cortisone--"When the house is
burning, you concentrate on putting out the fire, not on saving the
piano!" Get thru the emergency as best you can in context of the tools
available, then do any needed clean-up work afterwards.
So I would never tell someone "don't use antibiotics". Instead, I
explain the many other options, the disadvantages of chemical medicine,
and suggest that where there is time to try other things first (which
is *almost* always the case), that is better.
Best wishes,
Shannon

well, i think both sheri and shannon are saying similar things about
how to approach talking to pts about antibiotics. and both
approaches are equally good--providing information without
telling people what to do.

Ach sorry, I guess I have an "itchy trigger finger" this morning.
In that case, I agree!
