that's interesting. I don't have any experience with this, so would
appreciate knowing what kind of presentation you have seen, when stenosis
was present as a baby.

I was wondering when talking of the possibility of the pylorus being
involved in the chronic diarrhoea case, was this referring to the lung
problem or to the gut problem - I've lost base with this I think

Thanks Joy

I've also only come across Pyloric Stenosis in babies as projectile
vomiting. I was totally unaware of any presentation as adults as if they
don't get it fixed with "drops" or surgery or homeopathy they wouldn't be
able to live to adulthood!! The main Rx is Aethusa but here I would expect
to see an avers/agg to milk.

Hi Robyn,

Well, in the case we treated in Nairobi, the distinct sign of a "sloshing sound" (there's a proper medical term for this which I forget) led us to our diagnostic books which said "pyloric stenosis" or "hiatus hernia" are the only two likely causes. No mention that this happens only in babies. The pt. was over 30 yrs old. When we further researched "pyloric sten" in our clinical med books, we got the clinical sx presentation - of which we then used to both confirm the patient's own sx's as well as matching the remedy picture.

So, OK, we could have got it wrong. Since there was no hospital report and we couldn't officially confirm our diagnosis, I can't guarantee that's really what she had. (as in so many cases in the slums & villages of Kenya, we don't get diagnoses from drs or labs, only we treat the sx as presented.)

Nevertheless: even if our case in Kenya was not "true" pyl. sten, it still led us to the cure: Aethusa. All pt's sx were confirmed in the remedy.
... a "similium diagnosis" leading to a similium rx?-- ie "looks like pyl. sten" ;-)

The point of my suggestion was not to internet-diagnose on the slim casetaking offered, but to look into different possibilities, as Alva asked "where do I start."

As I wrote before, I'm not well-trained in clinical medicine. But could it be that the reason your med books mention only babies is because medical care & health in the West is of a high enough standard to prevent the causes in adults? Here in Africa, I see such horrific scourges that Nature visits upon a living body - things I would have never imagined before could be possible to endure...

***yeah stenosis is only in babies, but a pyloric obstruction can occur in
adults with a similar presentation and is usually secondary to a tumor or
scarring from an ulcer.
***I agree, that an Aethusa presentation could look like pyloric obstruction
and Aethusa can have generalized oedema associated with it - I just didn't
see the symptoms of an obstruction in the offering we got from Alva and was
confused by the suggestion, which took off, and then became a little
irritated by the lack of the complete case being presented.
As far as "where do I start", I personally think, on reflection, that it
would have been important to determine whether in this case the diarrhoea
was functional or organic before choosing remedies, because if functional
then there is likely to be an emotional component and will affect the
prescription more than likely.

It seems that as this lady had already had investigations done which
revealed nothing that we were informed about, that this could lead one to
think it may be functional, and could be investigated further in that
department.

I also agree that the symptoms are the important thing, but only if taking
into account the sphere of action that a remedy is capable of operating
within or resonates with however one wants to view it - and being able to
see causes helps with this - but this is an ideal situation, as from the
sounds of it you are in far from an ideal situation on that count.

It might turn out that you have more successes than we in the western arena,
due to your need to focus differently!!
***as always, thankyou for your input Didi, I always value what you have to
contribute - your experience is valuable and in volume, incomparable to
mine.

Best to you

Robyn

The sloshing sound is called "succussion" in medicalese (see, they use it too.....)

And a pyloric stenosis can occur in adults but from a different origin:

in babies, you have the congenital hypertrophy of the pyloric muscle
in adults, there is a scarring of the pylorus by peptic ulcers

both result in the impossibility to empty the stomach.

2 cases I can mention - one who had a tumour around the pylorus which was
removed in infancy but the area remained weakened all her adult life,
causing a lot of digestive distress. Another case, ongoing now, who had PS
as a child and who also still suffers (she is 44) and is receiving
Ornithogalum with excellent results. I also know of at least 2 other people
who have had this susceptibility but who have not sought Homeopathic
treatment but I am working on it :-)

Best wishes, Joy
