Since I was old enough to be the mother's mother I gave her a "lecture" that
she should stop resisting the child for a week or two and devote herself to
cuddling and inundating her with physical affection...to the point of
interrupting her in other activities. I told her to do this until her daughter
got sick of all the contact. I asked a friend of hers if she remembers when
the clinginess stopped and she said she knows it stopped but she doesn't
remember when. The woman now lives out of town. Later, I'll ask her friend to
call her and ask her if she remembers.
