The body uses twice as much calcium as magnesium, and twice as much phosphorus as calcium.
SO:
4 parts phosphorus
2 parts calcium
1 part magnesium

So a "normal" calmag supplement should have twice the calcium compared to magnesium.
(We get huge amounts of phosphorus usually in a diet, so it is not normally supplemented.)
Slowmag/Mag-SR/Mag64/Magdelay/etc has 106 to 112mg Ca and 64mg Mg per tablet....Just take it minus fat.
Or get Magnesium chloride hexahydrate from a compounding pharmacy. (Some states need a Rx!)

I think you just did me a HUGE favor Susan !!!

I had not found a liquid with acceptable ingredients - usually sorbitol and other stuff.
This one looks good!
I plan to try it.

THANKS!

Yes, I know that 2:1 ratio of calc to mag. However, we are now talking
of needing additional mag.
Years ago I had an attack of bursitis in my shoulder which was painful
enough for me to want to do something about it. My local HFS owner
was a pretty knowledgeable guy and I asked him about it. Mag was
his answer. Reverse the ration of calc:mag. A one time dose of
Mag was about 80% effective. A couple more doses and the problem
was gone.
I have been reading a Dr. Judd’s site where he recommends a Mag phos
supplement for teeth/gum health. He talks about a pure Mag phos
product without any fillers or other ingredients. Unfortunately this
product is from China and the distributor relies on the FDA/USDA
agencies to validate its purity and lack of GMO content. This is not
acceptable to me. All American sources (the few I found) all have
things like stearates in them and cost 3-4x the imported product.

"Inorganic" is a chemical term here.
Inorganic as a chemical term, just means there are no carbon atoms in the molecule of magnesium chloride. Minerals are all inorganic unless they are combined with some aspect of a life form. Life forms all contain carbon and thus (chemically speaking) are "organic" by definition (i.e. the chemical term "organic" not the gardening term "organic").

Table salt is another inorganic molecule - it is sodium chloride. We need that too.
Mineral salts (Magnesium chloride or sodium chloride or other mineral salts) are an excellent way to get minerals we need - and (chemically) inorganic forms work better than (chemically) organic forms, as the body uses them in inorganic form.
Magnesium chloride is slow to absorb whatever coating it may or may not have...so it is "slow" mag regardless what it is called or why it is sold. But in the stomach, the acid can react with the magnesium chloride and make it unavailable for absorption - or at least make some of it unavailable. So enteric coating prevents that.
All concentrated salts are irritant. Normal food does not land a chunk in the body luke that - it trickles it in, in food. Table salt is the same. If you took a tablet of it, it would also be "irritant" where it lands in a lump, especially if it is not dissolved in liquid.

It is well absorbed if it gets past the stomach unaltered - liquid supplements do not allow that.
There's no comparison between Mg chloride and Mg sulphate. They are two completely different substances.
Magnesium chloride will make you well. Magnesium sulphate will make you ill if you swallow it.
No.
Magnesium is only laxative in excess. Most people have constipation due to magnesium deficiency - and in that case, adding magnesium (in ANY form) will take away the deficiency as well as the constipation that results from the deficiency.
Epsom salts work better as a bath salt, as then it dissolves in the bath water and the body can absorb the salt (some of it - up to 10% increase in magnesium and sulphate in the blood) without irritating the gut. The sulphate is not fun.
Can you suggest a source and brand name? I may like to import some.

Namaste,
Irene

Swanson's magnesium chloride flakes might be purer than de-icing compound!

Interestingly, when I read on cell salts, mag phos was not indicated
for gums or teeth problems.

Gee thanks Dale - another option for me to try out - I am so glad this discussion started!
Ideally I'll just invent some capsules that are enteric coated, and load them up in my capsule making machine!
:-)

I wonder how much one can "hide" in food or soup?
Experiments to follow....

Namaste,
Irene

Thanks Irene, I will read more about Mag chloride. Just FWIW, Vitacost has a couple of others, one being a liquid (they don't have Slow-Mag):
