Which if these are you feeling may not be using homeopathic standards?
Both Bailey and Irene are, so far as I can tell. (Tho they are
addressing different areas of it.)

Oops, the remark about "cat constitutional types" was
ambiguous--Irene's observations have been with respect not only (and
not primarily) to the cats' personalities as indicators of their remedy
needs, but instead of their physical builds and shapes, etc. More
along the lines of tall, stooped (phos or sulph); calc-c's finely
wrinkled face and "round" build; large head and delicate features in a
silica child, etc.

Dear Marilyn,
Maybe we have a philosophic difference. To perceive a symptom, I have to use my perceptions. Often good descriptions of a remedy or a case that for some reason makes a deep impression on me sharpens and enriches my perceptions. I see nuances that I would not have noticed or thought about without those good descriptions. Then there are the cultural aspects of my perceptions that are without cross cultural experience often unexamined and unconscious. Those also go into my perceptions. The deepest and hardest to root out are the prejudices that come with my particular personality. Good writing and experience with different cases can help me to open up my perceptions so that I am not dominated by culture and personality. Be it a description of a cat or a human, good description does something to free the limitations of my perceptions.

Yes, Ellen, this is very true! ...the only thing is...you have to be sure that what you're reading is accurate.

I only meant that Irene's observations re "constitutional types" in
cats seems to be a lot about body type (tho their personalities come
thru the descriptions strongly as well), where I *assume* from the
title that Bailey's book does not cover that. I could well be wrong,
tho; the classical literature certainly contains observations about
both psychological make-up and body structure.
of that information can be paralleled with observations on humans.

Constitutional type, whether human, cat, dog or ???, would need to take into account both physical and psychological attributes. Using only physical attributes, is only getting part of the picture...and therefore skewing the results. Interpreting psychological attributes incorrectly will also skew results. Since cats can't talk interpreting their psyche is even more difficult than in humans...and that's hard enuf!
Homeopathic references aimed at humans...the good ones...are useful in any situation, whether it be treating a cat/dog/tree/whatever. Don't get all caught up in the different living beings, but observe what you need, in order to choose an appropriate remedy.

What I have done in my work on constitutional types is to find the
constitutional type of the cat using the repertory - but then to
expand on it by adding physical features that are consistent over all
examples of that remedy type.
My finding is that this is totally consistent and predictable across
different breeds and species.

For example if you imagine two extreme breeds of cats - Siamese
(skinny and slinky and long-nosed) and Persian (broad and cobby and
short-faced), you will find that all the constitutional types occur
in both/all breeds.
A Phos type in either breed will have *relatively* long legs (for the
breed or species etc), relatively flyaway fine fur/hair compared with
other examples of the breed, especially long fur on the tail
(relatively to other members of breed/species - for those with
tails), and a way of walking that resembles trotting jauntily more
than walking. They are often seen sitting beautifully straight and
upright (and the repertory has tendency to sit as a Phos rubric) -
the reason it is easy for a Phos cat to sit so, is the relatively
long legs that are about as long as the body, so that the body
neither has to slump (as for longer bodies) or stretch (as for short
bodies) but is actually comfortable sitting nicely straight.
Phos people also tend to sit straight rathe than slouched, and walk
briskly rather than strolling. They too have what looks like long
legs though if you actually measure legs and torso, they are very
close to the same dimension.

Another example: Sepia tends to have a shorter face than other breed/
species members - so in Persians this will result in an even shorter
face than usual (considered desirable by Persian breeders) , but in
Siamese it will probably not result in a "show quality" cat. Yet the
Sepia's hissy-spitty characteristics will not cause extra-short
Persians to be particularly liked by the other cats or judges at a
show, and it is unlikely to ever win "most friendly cat on
show" (which a Phos will more likely win). At dog shows, the Sepia
type also is a "mixed bag". They usually have very beautiful fur -
often unusual colors too - but (as it says in the repertory) Sepia is
"inelegant" in their movements. This is fine for cats - whose
movement is not judged - but try to get a Sepia dog to run prettily
or even just straight in the dog show and you are out of luck!

Another example: Check out any horse or person who is Ars type. You
will not find a type with a less bum flesh! Human Ars types need
suspenders or some such to keep their pants on over such a flat
bum .... horses don't have the suspenders problem - but you might
check out the horses at the track - Ars is often a long-distance
runner type, due to the type of strong musculature and stamina they
have

Yes that's correct.
Oh but they can! And they do! Their language involves about 120
different sounds, plus a whole lot of facial expressions (with mobile
ears for variations - which we lack) and body language (including
tails for more variations - which we also lack).

For example, m y Phos cat is the chattiest. When I get home, she
spends about 20 mins explaining to me what went on in my absence.
Phos people also have to talk a lot, and know who is doing what where
and why - be involved - chat on the phone for ages......

You can also tell what cats talk about which things.
For example Phos cats (or people) are happy talking about anything
and everything - but Lach cats who also talk - (you'll see
locquacious in the repertory) do not mess about - they speak when
they want to get a specific point across, and not just for the fun of
chatting.
The repertory does not differentiate - just calls both loquacious -
but the characteristics are more specific than that, and they are
clear in all species.
Actually it is easier with animals - they do not intentionally hide
what they think/feel
However - if you do - they have a LOT to teach us - as what applies
to them applies to us - and they offer it honestly and without
ulterior motives, judgements or assumptions:-)
I wish people did that!
