I'm confused! What was he seeking treatment for--if he hadn't
mentioned the trembling tongue and speech trouble (had he mentioned
giddiness on waking?) and he had no symptoms from the other things?

I surely can't argue with the results, and some support is there in
retrospect, but I still am confused about what led you to prescribe
lachesis--*what* was < on waking, and was that the only symptom you
had???

Hi Joy,
With the possible exception of the trembling tongue (and even that
rubric contains 59 remedies, the (3)s being Lach, Merch, and Camph),
none of this would have said "snake" to me... I wouldn't have regarded
the situation of hernia on one side and then the other as a
"side-to-side". I would have thought it more likely due to either his
work habits or the sort of slight structural inequality that all of us
have, or some such. Was there another basis too for seeing it as
"going from side-to-side"? (I am not asking this to be argumentative!
Just trying to check and refine my thinking...)

As to the blockages, I thought we were told that he had no symptoms
from it, yet in general *anyone* will at *some* point have trouble from
a blockage. And so *many* remedies could cover HBP. The specific
symptom of "small tumor in urethra" sounds good to me--*that* I find
meaningful and useful, but still not sure I'd have decided to go with
it, had this (God forbid) been my case.

Dear Shannon, this thread has inevitably moved towards understanding
the rx choice rather than examining the miasmatic influence or
understanding the miasmatic prescribing techniques, but this is what
was presented as the case initially.
For me what is confusing is the the hernia was stated as a first sx
which went from right to left (one of the obvious reasons I thought
Lyc) and it isn't obvious that the blockage happened before in the left
kidney and stones in the right so then you have left to right - all
depends on how you read it. Add to this the HBP and reaction to dye
(not sure how important that latter sx is) and retrospectively the fact
that the son had to make him go to the doctor (if I read that right)
because the client just never stopped working (industrious - lachesis
keynote), so this is someone who 'had no desire to mix with the world'
(another lachesis keynote, although a bit of a wild card from me but
that is how it seems to pan out).

These are all mainly factual and repertorisable sx. The hernia sx are
very important and why wouldn't you use them. The rubrics are quite
small and if you had so few sx of a case such as this to work with you
could/should study all the rx in the rubrics and not rule out any too
soon. Lachesis is obviously there but I think the 'workaholic' approach
to life should be ranked highly as well.

Basically the case is

hernia R-L = so the whole abdominal region is in fact L-R-L and highly
characteristic of lachesis

The tongue sx weren't known at the time so from a rx choice point of
view are irrelevant - they were included I suppose as part of the miasm
discussion.

The main idea of case presentation is for a homeoapthic prescription,
where or not there is a miasmatic analysis. The homeoapthic
characteristics poitn to teh rmeedy. the remedy should fit in with the
maismatic pathlogy.
SO maybe H2002 would remmeber to do taht the next time he asks a
miasmatic question.

For me the choice of LAchesis does NOT hold given even the additional
characteristics (besides the miasmatic) - so I'd like to see a 1 year
follow up of the case to know how it went, miasmatically and remedy wise.

We can see there was a problem from the blockages (stones) - which is
Hydronephrosis. This is the early sign of sycosis. EMotionally -
avoiding the doctor is also a sign of sycosis.

back after that which I guess I had mentioned. I do not think the
patient even avoided doctors.

Here is a man, who had never been to the city and who had never had
any complaints except a mild giddiness in the morning on waking and
of course the hernias( even though there were problems internally -
he had never suffered) comes to city and gets a frightening
diagnosis - gets shunted to different hospitals- and gets shot up
with dyes for testing etc. So once he was able to get relief from his
BP and urea promptly returns to his village and does not want
anything to do with medicine again. I would not think it too
abnormal. It is a cultural thing. It is the big bad city that had
done this...

I did not need a prescription, which had already been given- just
wanted a miasmatic reading. More than symptoms there were enough
pathological pointers to think of what miasms are active.

Lachesis was prescribed more in desperation than with any confidence -
since there were no symptoms except the giddiness < waking and HBP
and there was this left kidney almost gone and right developing
pathology here. patient not very clear about hernia being first on
right and then left...he stated so but was not very sure about it...
I was as surprised about the results as probably you are- but there
it is...

miasm did not matter then and now- just wanted to find out if

be done. I think Joy did a fairly good job and I would have gone on
to Lyc. after this had the patient persisted...

Right h2002, I do appreciate your willingness to do so.
I think you would get a better answer if you presented a detialed
chronological history along with progression of cure under a remedy or
series of remedies. We could then predict the pathway of cure roughly
which gives us an idea of whether we're moving in teh right direction.

IF you present the remedies as well, we would also know if their
choice allowed for appropriate miasmatic ovement and which ones we
not. Assessing HErings law of cure is a live/immediate (on
presentation assessment), but miasmatic assessment can easily be done
on retrospect.

In essence, life becomes very simple when there is a single grand,
corr, central similimmum. OFten we may not be able to get to that, or
the case does nto allow for it. We need to then be able to assess
whether our more superficial similimums (yes they are similimum's to a
presenting picture) set us on the right course or not.

I feel very grateful to see Shannon and Joy offer their perspectives.
I'm sure many others on the list had some, though they may not have
posted. I"m delighted at the interest generated.
Someone said that she did not have the brain power... its not that.
Its only a way of percieving we can all learn.
It is not necessarily easy, and it wan't for me as well. But when we
start to perceive in such a way, we realise how we can handle the
worst pathology, acute emmergencies and cancers (along with a knowlege
of remedies and disease) in any pateint becasue we "know" what we're
doing. Homeopathy is on its way to becoming the true alternatice
system of the future.

It sure doesn't seem surprising that he didn't come back! Poor guy...
How nice that he got lucky! It may be a situation where there
was a good deal of latitude in the prescription because his basic
energy was apparently very good?

I agree it would have been wonderful to have a one-year follow-up,
since it is *also* possible that the wonderful effects were only
temporary--if the remedy was close enough to palliate (I do *not* mean
suppress), but not close enough to cure. I have seen at least a
handful of prescriptions where the initial results were quite beautiful
and deep-looking, but did not last very long. (And further repetitions
and posology tweaks didn't work either.) Which is why I am such a
huge, huge, HUGE fan of follow-ups! (Argh, don't get me on that
soapbox, LOL!)

Or it may be that his basically strong body was able to take what it
was given, and do what was needed. We're always told that healthy
people respond better to remedies...
