Since this thread has veered so far off the topic of homeopathy, I'm taking the liberty of posting a plug for the seed co-op started by my son and daughter-in-law. She's Mohawk and comes from a long line of seed savers -- in fact, she's lecturing all over the country now and doing workshops on seed saving.
I have to say that their seeds have the best germination rates of any I've used, including Fedco and Seed Savers Exchange.

My own personal experience with gardening, is that part of the nourishment comes from the harvest, but part of it comes from the sowing and tending.

I am not a very "good" gardener, tho I am enthusiastic. So mostly I refer to my efforts as "playing in the dirt." For me that takes away any possible stress of "performance anxiety"! (But it is a darned good thing I still have a grocery store handy, that's for sure.)

Irene, thanks for the tips on Knotweed! I'll look it up.

I refer to my weeds as "my best crop." On my little slice, Lambsquarters (aka one of the Pigweeds) is a favorite. Also purslane, dandelions (both yummy in blender drinks), and I am still experimenting with violet leaves.

Oh, trust me, my garden is far from fastidious or professional.
I have too many problems and every year there is something else to deal with
But I do love being in the garden. It is so healing, especially when setting up, digging
in the dirt (I hand turn the garden every year) and then watching new life spring forth.
It is a spiritual practice in many ways as well as one that provides food. I eat off my
garden year round as I freeze a lot of what is grown. There is always a lot of something
to freeze despite all that doesn’t make it.

btw, does your DIL relate to any of the reservations?
and have you been following the Unit Ride that has been coming thru NYS?
I went to one of the events last Wed but missed 2 that were probably more
exciting be part of.
there is one group from Akwasasne that canoed down the Hudson and another the
has been riding from Manitoba—both groups from Canada. In Poughkeesie the paddlers
passed under the Poughkeepsie bridge while the riders were on the bridge. I wasn’t
able to be there but just reading about it with the sounds of their voices communicating
sent chills thru me. some people wrote that it brought tears to their eyes. very
powerful event. they will be in NYC this week at the UN talking about peace and
renewing their 400 yr old treaty (as if this country or Canada ever really respected it).

there was and still is that community in Scotland.
brain blanking for the moment. began as a spiritual
retreat with 4 people on a rocky piece of land. this
woman writes about her experience in getting to
this place and, thru meditation, connected with the
land and various plants which spoke to her. they
guided her plantings and the land was turned into
a phenomenal garden. people began to come and
now, I believe, it is a well known retreat and vacation
spot.
amazing what people can do with the land when working
in synch with it.
