The key factor (since after all these millenia we are actually quite well adapted to our local pathogens), but definitely not the only factor. Susceptibility in absence of challenge, equals no disorder. And certain susceptibilities are species-wide.

I have no argument with anything you're saying; again, I have not attempted to downplay the importance of susceptibility.

We did answer it--susceptibility.
We didn't say there were no 'germs' around; we said you were susceptible to them.
Can you seriously ignore the facts that you presented: marriage ending, in a foreign
country half way around the world, two small children, multiple stressors on all of you,
a long plane ride home, no place of your own to live, cranky, sick kids, looking for
a house to buy, dealing with culture shock, etc, etc, etc. You don't think all this, beginning
back in Peru, had much to do with your collective susceptibility. Come on, now. Get real.

There are two main points, IMO, each being "championed" by one "side".

A) that susceptibility plays a huge role in determining "who gets what" (illness-wise), and
B) that microbes (aka germs, aka bacteria and viruses) can make ya sick IF you are susceptible (and won't, if you are not).

Tanya, would you by any chance agree with both of those statements? (I'm not asking you to agree which of the two is "more important", but asking only whether you agree that each one is true).

b) says that you get sick when susceptible and that microbes can be involved.

My question is "Where did Hep A come from? And why not flu, or pneumonia?"
I'm not discussing susceptibility - that's why everyone gets ill. We all know that.
But the virus - the virus!! Because that's what it was.

your main point is that virus are contagious and the virus/germ comes first and causes.....
the argument here is that the susceptibility comes first. i really don't care which germ and
which set of sx develop. if you didn't have the susceptibility, you would not have become sick.
