I think that's exactly the point--in some cases the distinguishing
features won't be from the mentals (tho often so), but will be found in
the physicals. That seems the same as what i was taught, to "Go where
the case is"--mentals or physicals or both, wherever you can find
*distinctive* symptoms. Somewhere Kent gave his reason for emphasizing
mentals as simply that they are often a source of more subtle
prescribing information; but not *always*!

Have you seen Mangialavori's seminar books? Unfortunately, the editing is not the best, but he conducts his seminars with the same format as the IFH and tries to point out the underlying themes of each remedy. His cases are also presented verbatim (though not always with his questions).
BTW, the IFH books are in Reference Works. When I first read them, I felt lost. Reading them now, I marvel at the odd tangents some homeopaths went on when suggesting remedies. I think the profession has come a long way in understanding individual remedies since the IFH.

Hi Shannon,
It was a very good mail by Hahnemmanian (Soroush?). I can't find it.
He/She? just went down a list of cases where a physical led to a great
distinguishing characteristic of a remedy. It didn't matter that the
physical was local.
Your point is excellent. It is easy to discount a physical just
becuase it is local. You have to keep digging because as you say the
characteristic rubric could easily be in the physical realm.
Actually, as a beginner who is very impressed by mentals, it is easy
to make this mistake. I am not good at physiology, but I am very
interested in everything that anyone can teach me because somehow, I
think it will help me to be more tuned into physicals. That and
repping those old mostly physical cases. That's why I am interested
in the Boenninghausen cases that Luise put up. Do you think that
others would be interested in doing those cases in Minutus?

I find the case conference books extremely valuable as well. What I have also found helpful is going on google and reading old master's case books. It was reassuring to see the cases and their progression and not just the "neat" cases that the remedy was obvious and worked flawlessly!

If you go to http://books.google.com you can find a lot of old homeopathy books that have been scanned. The ones I have been reading lately are: "A Guide to Homeopathic Practice" by Isaac D. Johnson, "The Cure of Tumours by Medicines" by John Henry Clarke, and "How to Read the Repertory" by Glen Irving Bidwell and James Tyler Kent.
You can do the advanced search (I just used "homeopathy") and find ones that have full text. You can create your own library and share it, etc. You can also download the texts if you want. It's a gold mine!
The old homeopathy journals from 1915, 1920 are both fascinating and entertaining! So amazing to read how intricately they knew so many remedies. Cures of diabetes and cancer as normal course. The "Pacific Coast Journal of Homeopathy" from 1915 gives a report on books from Dr. Wm. Boericke himself. I find it difficult to heed their advice of old and not read during my dinner!
