Hi Liz,

in German the word ist Welt-Kultur-Erbe - translating into
World-Culture-Inheritance.

So perhaps World-Legacy or something would be a reasonable expression
- also easier understood by most people than patrimony?

That's a lovely way to say it - I love that facility to put words together in German! A great language, and wish I had more time to learn it properly.
But I'm not sure about World-Legacy - it still sounds too limited, too parochial. Doesn't have the grandeur of patrimony, probably because of the tradition of use and history of each word.
Don't think we'll ever find common ground! A shame, as I am not anti-feminist at all - just protective of what works in language and reluctant to destroy something with a good tradition, like that expression.
